On December 17th, the Afisha St. Petersburg
magazine organized a charitable auction in Center-City. All the money collected
during the auction (351,583 rubles and $200) will be spent on medications
and medical supplies necessary for treatment of children with cancer.
Thanks to the auction, we were able to meet the most urgent needs of our little
patients and make sure that children were able to enjoy the New Year celebration.
We spent the donations on the following:
- Thrombocyte systems for the children of BMT department (99,112 rubles),
- Financial help to Alesha Zakharov
(16,000 rubles),
- Financial help to Maya Damaskin
(43,000 rubles),
- Vfend and Diflucan for Dariko Saliya
(80,000 rubles),
- Vfend for all the children (60,000 rubles),
- Neupogen for all the children (45,000 rubles),
- Nebulizers for the children of BMT department (4,000 rubles),
- Maxipime for Kirill Vazhenin
(6,000 rubles), and
- Cyclosporine sets for the children of BMT department (27,500 rubles).
We are deeply grateful to the employees of the Afisha for their colossal
work in organizing the event. We would also like to thank the auctioneer,
Sergey Shnurov (who is a soloist of Leningrad band), for the excellent
job in raising the funds.
28.12.2005 Artem Beletsky was discharged from the BMT clinic
of State Medical University and transferred to the Children Hospital No.1.
19.12.2005 Yulia Tsvetkova is scheduled
to receive bone marrow transplant on January 24.

08.11.2005 The BMT clinic ran out of thrombocyte
transfusion systems. Each system costs 250 euros, and six to eight systems are needed
for each patient. We will be very grateful for help in acquiring them.
18.05.2005 The European bone marrow donor registry
had agreed to pay for all the expenses
associated with the search for donor and collection of bone marrow
for Vika Michurina.
Now we only need to collect 2,000 – 2,500 euro to pay for delivery of
transplant from the collection center in Europe to Vika's patient
room in St. Petersburg.

hospital in Moscow Yura Sogrin was infected with hepatitis B and C.
These diseases are dangerous on their own and especially due to toxic effect
of chemotherapy on liver. We are in urgent need of help due to necessity of purchasing
expensive medicines for combating the hepatitis..

donor, the girl has to endure painful chemotherapy. On December 1, Vika
will turn 15, and her mother will lose the right to stay on a sick leave.

15.09.2004 An anonymous donor transferred $1,400 to the
Czech registry of bone marrow donors to activate a donor for Zhanna Chebanova.
He also sent $1,700 to Advita Foundation to pay for transplant delivery by courier.

20.08.2004 A matching donor was found for Egor Gurylev.
We are waiting for the results of his sternal puncture, which will affect the scheduling of bone
marrow transplant. To this day, two thirds of the necessary amount were collected.
However, we still need to raise 5,000 Euro to pay for the activation of the unrelated
bone marrow donor.
19.08.2004 Varya Ogneva was scheduled for
an examination in the US. It has been a year since her bone marrow transplant.
14.08.2004 Zhanna Chebanova was
released from the Regional Clinical hospital after receiving chemotherapy. An anonymous
donor had transferred $8,000 to Czech bone marrow donor registry to
activate a donor for Zhanna.
19.07.2004 Zhanna Chebanova's
condition had suddenly worsened. The transplant operation
now needs to be done sooner.
15.07.2004 Misha Stepanov
was found to have 2 areas of fungal infection in his lungs. He was prescribed
a monthly course of treatment with Cansidas, which costs 21,000 rubles a bottle.
We need 30 bottles to complete the treatment; therefore, the total cost of this
medication necessary for Misha’s survival is $22,000. The bone marrow transplant
is being delayed.

Dima Tsukanov is at in-patient department at our clinic.
He had a sever exacerbation of acute GVHD,
what required infusions of strong medications - Zenapax, high doses of hormones,
massive accompanying therapy, parenteral nutrition.
In acute phase Dima had a severe skin injury with ulcer and erosion appearing,
signs of severe bowels and liver injury. His condition was very grave. At present
Dima feels far better, the amount of medication he receives is significantly reduced.
Dima walks along the department passage, eats himself. Nevertheless there is still a
risk of GVHD exaceberation.
Sasha Teslikov is currently being examined at the bone marrow transplant clinic.
He was found to have GVHD again, and he is receiving full examination by all
the specialists. Lately he has not been feeling well; he had high temperature,
cough and he felt weak. He also has problems in his mouth, such as stomatitis
and fungal infection.
Sasha is given increased doses of Cyclosporin, Valtrex and Diflucan, and he was
prescribed Prednisolone again. He has no appetite, as usual, and he lost weight.
I can tell that he breathes better now, but he still complains sometimes,
especially when he gets colds. He periodically breathes with a nebulizer,
and he is watched by a pulmonologist.
Valeria Zagorets: the search of unrelated donor for the girl
is going on, but unfortunately is up till now resultless.
The girl is under the observation of doctors at the place of residence, receives
the necessary supportive therapy.

Liliya Fedoryuk has come to the clinic for allo-transplantation, and the planned date is March 23, 2004.
At the moment she is in full remission, and feels ok.
Dima Makushkin is under the observation in out-patient order. His state is still unstable and he
needs regular substitutive transfusions of hemocomponents. Periodically he has a worsening of
haemorrhagic cystitis. The problem with developing double necrosis of femor cervicis are
almost solved, but to support this state, special chemicals are constantly necessary.
Dima continues his education at the institute, studies well and plans the further
education and practice.
Varya Ogneva is under the observation at our department after transplantation conducted at
the USA clinic. She feels good and has no signs of any complications after transplantation
or therapy she's got. She receives the immunosuppressive therapy - cyclosporine A, but it's
doses are being gradually decreased. Also there is a considerable amount of so called
subsidiary therapy - antibiotic, antifungal and antivirus medications, vitamins etc.

11.11.2003 Valera Tuaev was found to have
a progressing fungal lung infection. The situation is critical. We urgently need Voriconazole,
which is to be taken for 10 days (10 mg per 1 kg of weight). The cost of treatment is approximately
$1,200. We need your help.

Dmitry Nepochatyi.

Liliya Fedoryuk is currently undergoing the therapy with Glivec.
She remains in the complete remission. We are collecting the funds for
the search of matching donor for Lilya.
Dima Makushkin is being watched at the BMT clinic. He is in need of regular
blood and thrombocyte transfusions. Last spring and summer, he had problems
with hipbone joints, first with the right one, and then with the left one.
These problems led to a diagnosis with necrosis of the top of the thighbone,
and were caused by intake of large doses of hormones in the past.
For some time, Dima could move around only on crutches. He currently has less
pronounced complications, and he is able to walk on his own. In September,
he was able to continue his studying at the Polytechnic University.
However, he still has low hemoglobin, thrombocyte and leukocyte counts.
The donated bone marrow has not yet been completely accepted, and
Dima continues to receive immunosuppressive therapy.
Dima Tsukanov has had a non-bone marrow relapse in August - September
and received chemotherapy. Currently, he still has cytopenia and lowered blood
counts. However, the doctors believe that once the blood counts increase,
he will be confirmed for full remission. A matching donor was found in the
registry in Israel; the stem cell transportation procedure is being discussed
and the necessary documents are being issued. The transplant is planned for
the beginning of October.
Valera Tuaev is having another intensification of chronic GVHD. The disease has
affected lungs and Valera periodically has asphyxia attacks. Additionally, soft
tissues of Valera's digestive system and eyes were damaged. He is being treated
at the BMT clinic and he receives blood radiation. Due to therapy, Valera feels
somewhat better. Currently, the clinic is attempting to organize a purchase of
the new drug for chronic GVHD treatment, which is widely used abroad,
but is little known in Russia. The cost of this drug is high, and we need to
find the funds for the purchase.
10.09.2003 The municipality of Rapolano Terme, Siena, Italy,
recently donated 30,000 rubles for the treatment of children with cancer. We would
like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the First Citizen and Mayor
Alvaro Forconi and assessors Ms. Baldaccini and Mr. Anselmi. Thanks to your

The operation passed without any complications. Girl is in remission now. But transplated
blood cells doesn't work themselves yet. The cytopenia - lacks of leucocites and platellets -
are exist. So Lilya needs in special medicines, which could stimulate the growing of blood
cells. Otherway hard complications could arised such as infections and haemorrhages.
