Hello!
My name is Valentina, I am 40 years old. My daughter Evgeniya is 19, she is in her
last year of high school. On January 10, 2008 during a visit to a hematologist my
daughter was diagnosed with a terrible disease, chronic myeloid leukemia and told
that she needs urgent hospitalization, which should be followed by therapy with
expensive drug, Glivec. The most awful thing is that Evgeniya cannot get the
treatment she needs. Let me explain our situation.
For more than 14 years, since 1993, my daughter and I have been living in St.
Petersburg. In 2006 she and I applied to Russian citizenship. However, due to
mistakes of Federal Migration Service employees, only I got the citizenship. Evgeniya's
application for citizenship was not properly processed. Soon after my daughter
became of full legal age and she was told to re-apply. As such, Evgeniya is still
considered a citizen of Ukraine and once every three months she has to cross
the Russian border.
My daughter needs urgent hematological treatment, which she was refused due to lack
of Russian citizenship.
I am desperate! I have no money to pay for such long-term treatment, and I cannot help
my daughter with anything other than going from one office to
another with a plea for help.
If Evgeniya is not hospitalized for treatment urgently, the irreversible damage may
occur. She also needs Glivec that costs hundreds of thousands of
rubles for just a month of therapy. Evgeniya needs it for six months or more.
My daughter is only 19. She has a little boy who is 4 years old. Evgeniya is
feeling desperate. Due to enlarged spleen she does not feel well.
Her son and I really need her! Evgeniya is my only daughter!
Please respond if your heart is ready to help those in need!
Thank you in advance,
Valentina Mineicheva

Update as of January 26, 2008.
Zhenya is being monitored by hematologists at State Medical University. She started taking Glivec
and her condition had already changed for better. The daily dosage is 4 pills.
A package of Glivec lasts her a month.
Update as of June 2, 2008.
We are very grateful to everyone who gave us their attention and supported my daughter
and I at this difficult time. Thanks to your help, Evgeniya has been able to maintain
her good condition for the last five months with Gleevec therapy.
She is much better. Her tumor shrank and she feels better. Zhenya now has more strength
and joy and she works on graduating from high school.
In April her application for temporary residence was finally accepted, which means
she will soon be able to apply for Russian citizenship as well, even though it will
require money, time and effort. The application may be processed for up to six months,
and for this reason we still need your support.
God bless you for your kindness and care for Zhenya!

Update as of October 7, 2008.
This year Zhenya graduated from high school. She really wanted to find a job,
so she was employed as a courier. We are trying to apply for the Russian citizenship,
but we have not been able to get an appointment due to huge lines.
Zhenya spends a lot of time with her son, especially since Aslan gets sick often.
However, she misses communicating with other people.
Zhenya still takes Gleevec. We are grateful to everyone who supports us financially
or emotionally. We are hopeful for the future support and waiting for Zhenya to
receive Russian citizenship, which will enable her to get Gleevec under the
federal program for free medications.
We would like to thank Viktoria who gave Zhenya a package of Gleevec!

Update as of December 25, 2008.
Zhenya continues Gleevec therapy. She feels well. Zhenya received
residency in Russia for the next three years.
Update as of May 25, 2009.
Zhenya is finally going to get Russian citizenship!
It means she will soon be able to get Gleevec for free as a Russian
citizen. Zhenya with her son and mother are urgently looking for a
one-room apartment at Frunzensky district. We will be grateful for any offers.
Update as of June 1, 2009.
We managed to rent an apartment, and Zhenya likes it a lot,
but it has no furniture. We will be very grateful for donations
of used furniture in good condition, most importantly, beds.
Update as of October 31, 2009.
All this time, we paid apartment rent ourselves, but now we are
in a very difficult financial situation and will be grateful for
one-time help. We urgently need 13,000 rubles to pay apartment rent.

Update as of January 27, 2010.
Zhenya takes Gleevec, which she receives at the clinic at State Medical
University.
Update as of March 31, 2010.
We had a few changes in our family. Evgenia really wanted to live
independently, by herself. However, because she was laid off from
her old job, she moved back with me. The search for a new job took
about two months. She is still taking Gleevec and it helps her.
Zhenya is a very lively and optimistic girl. She loves her 6-year
old son very much. Zhenya feels well. She has now found a job
she likes – she works as a waiter at Pirogoff Cafe in Avtovo.
She also enrolled into University to study Psychology, but was only
able to study for a month due to lack of money. She dreams of
continuing her studies, but I am not sure when it will be possible.
We currently have a hard time paying rent, because I myself lost a job.
For the last month, I have not been able to pay for our living expenses,
but I am hoping it is just a temporary difficulty and that someone
will be able to help and support our family at this challenging time.
Zhenya and I are thankful to everyone who is interested in our lives.
Thank you for your care and financial support.
