Hello!
I am the mother of Yulia Vodopianova who needs your help. My dear daughter,
my only child had been just enjoying life like any other young girl.
She finished school and became a student of the St. Petersburg University
of Civil Aviation.
But in February 2011 she got sick with myelomonoblastic leukemia - a
very grave type of leukemia. At present we have five months of a
very difficult treatment course at City Hospital 1 of St. Petersburg
behind us: intensive care, numerous complications after the chemotherapy...
Thanks to the doctors' efforts the disease subsided, but in order to
overcome it completely my daughter
needs a donor bone marrow transplantation.
The search in the International Registry has been initiated.
Our friends and relatives helped us raise 5,000 euros, so we have
already made the first payment to the registry. Based on preliminary
search results Yulia only has 13 donors, but we do believe that a 100%
compatible donor we be found!
However, Yulia has one more problem now: she's had too many blood
transfusions in the past, so her body is overloaded with iron - the
count exceeds the norm significantly. In the meantime, the success of
the transplantation is largely determined by on the patient's condition.
Yulia has to take Exjade on a regular basis. One pack costs 90,000
roubles and lasts for 42 days. We cannot afford such an expensive drug.
We will be thankful for any help to our Yulia we can get. Your support
will give her a chance to have a future of her own.
Update as of August 18, 2011.
The funds needed for the bone marrow donor search have been raised.
Thank you so much Vladimir Stefanovich Litvinenko for your charitable
help and Svetlana Yurievna Agapitova for making this help possible.
Yulia's mother
Update as of September 11, 2011.
Yulia is monitored at the Raisa Gorbacheva Institute of Children's Hematology and
Transplantology. She is administered Dacogen at the day patient facility. The donor
has been found, transplantation is planned for October or November. The money for
transplant delivery has been found.
Update as of September 22, 2011.
Yulia's transplantation is scheduled for October 26.
Update as of October 3, 2011.
Unfortunately, planned tests showed blast growth and Yulia was
hospitalized at R. Gorbacheva Pediatric Hematology and Transplantation
Institute for anti-relapse chemotherapy under FLAG regimen with plans
to proceed to bone marrow transplantation.
Transplantation will be performed as planned.
Update as of November 2, 2011.
Yulia underwent transplantation on October 26th, as scheduled.
She is now recovering. Her blood counts are very low, and during
chemotherapy her mouth tissue was damaged. She cannot eat and
receives nutrition intravenously.
Update as of January 18, 2012.
Yulia is still in hospital struggling with the cytomegalovirus.Vfend is
still needed.
Update as of February 8, 2012.
Yulia's CMV infection was taken under control. She is being monitored
as a day patient and receives hormonal therapy for skin GVHD (she
has good response and doses are being gradually reduced).
Yulia also takes Vfend and Entocort. Based on puncture results,
she is in remission. Donor's bone marrow s functioning well, but
in the last CBC lower platelet count was observed, and a puncture
was repeated. The results of it are not yet ready. Yulia feels well.
Update as of February 29, 2012.
Unfortunately Yulia's platelet and hemoglobin counts continue to
fall so she's getting blood transfusions. Based on the puncture
results Yulia is in remission and there are no blasts, but the
transplant is not functioning sufficiently. Yulia is now
administered a number of drugs that stimulate bone marrow,
as well as immunoglobulins and albumin. The doctors are considering
transplantation of donor lymphocytes. Yulia is feeling ok.
Update as of March 27, 2012.
Unfortunately, control puncture discovered a relapse.
On March 26th Yulia was hospitalized at Gorbacheva Institute
for anti-relapse chemotherapy cycle, which will be followed
by donor's lymphocyte infusion. Vfend is still needed.
