Other Yulia's photos

I would like to ask all good people for help. My granddaughter, Yulia Urusheva, is seriously ill. Yulia is the only hope and joy for her mother (my daughter) who had her at 33, without a husband and without a hope for a happy family (she is disabled since childhood).
Until she turned 1, Yulia was growing and developing normally, but on her first birthday she was taken to the Children's hospital No.1 where she stayed for three months getting examined and treated. Yulia was found to have a rare blood disorder, congenital partial red cell aplasia (Diamond-Blackfan syndrome).
Yulia is now 1.5, and she is already disabled. Every month, she has to have blood transfusions to keep her alive. The doctors at the Children's hospital are very caring and attentive, but even they cannot help her. Yulia’s only chance for cure is bone marrow transplant. My daughter does not and will not have any more children, and therefore, we need to find an unrelated donor.
The amount of money needed for the search, activation and transportation of donated bone marrow is enormous – 15,000 euros. The delivery of transplant to St. Petersburg costs another 2,500 euros.
Our family does not have an income to afford this. My husband and I are retired, and my daughter earns very little. Please help us collect the money to save Yulia! I implore you to help with as much as you can. Our hopes for Yulia's recovery rest in the hands of kind and responsive strangers, the people who cannot tolerate human suffering. The life of a small child who just started to live depends on your kindness.
Please save Yulia and God will reward you!

Update as of July 13, 2006.
The Russian Help Fund transferred 15,000 euros to our account in Germany. We are enormously grateful to Lev Ambinder and other employees of Russian Help Fund and everybody else who has been helping us to collect the funds to save Yulia!
We would like to thank you for your help and support, and we will always remember you and pray for your wellbeing. We really hope that all other children will be as lucky as our Yulia to collect the money they need for the treatment!

Update as of July 18, 2006. We are enormously grateful to our American supporters and Lyudmila Nikolaevna.
We are also touched by attention from Kirill Yurievich Lavrov, and would like to thank him for his help and good wishes.
Thanks to everyone's help, it was possible to start the search for the donor in Germany. We believe that operation will happen. We have enough money for the donor search and delivery of bone marrow transplant. After the operation, we may also need the money to pay for medications and medical supplies.
Sometimes, this costs hundreds of thousands of rubles. We are worried about that. If a need arises, we will be very grateful for help and support from those who care for our little Yulia.
With hope,
Urushev family

Update as of October 23, 2006. We went for a consultation with professor Afanasiev, director of Hematology Center of State Medical University, who told us that a donor for Yulia was found. The match is not perfect, but permissible.
The operation is being planned for December, because professor told us that they will also check a donor registry in Moscow for a better match.
We are already gathering documentation for the operation.
Yulia is not sick, but she had to have transfusions more frequently lately. We will be patiently waiting for the operation. Thank God, we now have some certainty. We would like to thank everybody for their help and support.

Yulia feels relatively well.

We are very grateful to Anya, Natasha and an author of the letter from Krasnoe Selo for their sincere support and kind wishes.
