Hello!
The name of the girl in the photo is Yuliana, she is 7. Like many other children she used to go to preschool, loved dancing and singing and took part in children's parties. She practiced dancing and was going to start school in the town of Lysva of the Permsky Krai in September.
It all began with a feeling of weakness, constant crying and nosebleeds which made us go to a doctor. In February 2009 Yuliana was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome.
Our family faced with real trouble. Such a disease cannot be cured by pills or injections. The only chance for my daughter to be cured is a donor bone marrow transplantation.
From February till August Yuliana and her mother have been staying at the Permsky Regional Oncohematology Center waiting for an invitation from the Russian children's clinical hospital in Moscow. In April she got one chemotherapy block based on the myelogenous leukemia protocol. It took Yuliana a very long time to recover after chemotherapy but remission was achieved, and translocation of chromosomes 6-9 was not there any more either.
Due to a long wait list for a bone marrow transplantation in Moscow we were sent to the Raisa Gorbacheva Institute of Children's Hematology and Transplantology in St. Petersburg. The doctors had a symposium and decided that while Yuliana was in remission she needed an autotransplantation of stem cells. Unfortunately chances of control over myelodysplastic syndrome with the help of chemotherapy and autotransplantation are only 30%, and even if the treatment is successful the disease often comes back within 12 months, so a donor bone marrow transplantation is necessary in any case.
Since Yuliana has no sisters or brothers we had to search for donor bone marrow in the international registry.
The preliminary search showed that there are donors but we have no money to cover the search and activation. The search for the donor bone marrow costs 15 thousand euros and another 2.5 thousand will be needed to pay for its delivery.
No matter how hard we try we will not be able to earn such a sum. Which is why we are asking you for your help. Please help our daughter!

Update as of January 13, 2010. Yuliana is now at home, in Lysva, under the doctors' watch. She feels rather well. Unfortunately, donor search was not started due to lack of money.

Update as of January 25, 2010. Advita Fund transferred 2,000 euros to initiate the donor search for Yuliana. Today we learned that Happy World Fund raised the rest of the money for the donor search and delivery of transplant. We will close fundraising for Yuliana.

Update as of April 3, 2010. Yuliana is being monitored by local hematologists. She feels rather well. The donor search is continuing.

Update as of April 16, 2010. Transplantation is scheduled for the end of May.

Update as of May 19, 2010. Yuliana came to St. Petersburg. In a few days she will be hospitalized for pre-transplantation chemotherapy.

Update as of August 18, 2010. Yuliana has been admitted to hospital due to a dramatic decrease of the amount of oxygen in blood. The girl is on artificial lung ventilation. The doctors are trying to find the reasons.

Update as of August 25, 2010. Yuliana's condition is critical: she has sepsis and is on artificial lung ventilation. She receives antibiotics and antifungals, but has not responded to treatment yet.
