Another Ylyana's photo

Hello!
Before I was diagnosed with leukemia, my lifestyle was a usual one for a girl of my age. I worked as a lawyer, went to a fitness studio, did Oriental dancing as a hobby, met up with friends and traveled to the seaside during holidays. As perhaps with many patients, leukemia manifested itself very unexpectedly.
On May 31, 2010 my blood pressure rose sharply when I was at work. An ambulance arrived, the paramedics gave me some pills, and I was better. The doctor referred me to the polyclinic for a check-up. The physician, having assessed the blood test results, strongly advised me to see a hematologist. All this time I was feeling well. I did get tired at work sometimes, but who doesn't?
I was able to see the hematologist for a consultation in July. Apart from low leukocyte counts nothing seemed to be wrong with me. I had blood tests done regularly, and leukocyte counts remained steadily low. At the end of November a sternal puncture of the bone marrow was performed, which revealed leukemia. The diagnosis was further specified in Novosibirsk as acute myeloblastic leukemia. The first chemotherapy cycle administered in the Department of Hematology of Kemerovo Regional Clinical Hospital was ineffective. I then underwent treatment in Novosibirsk at the Research Institute for Clinical Immunology, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. I achieved remission after high dose chemotherapy – however, bone marrow transplantation was needed to overcome the disease completely. I did not have a related donor, so it was decided to perform the transplantation from a compatible unrelated donor from the International Registry. Fortunately, kind and generous people helped me with paying for the donor search and the transplant delivery.
On December 9, 2011 the transplantation was performed at R. Gorbacheva Institute of Pediatric Hematology and Transplantology in St. Petersburg. It went well. I am now recovering from it, and my body is very susceptible to infection. I was prescribed an antifungal drug Vfend, one pack of which costs 27,000 rubles. It lasts a week and has to be taken for several months. The medication is currently unavailable under a quota, and unfortunately I cannot afford to buy such an expensive drug. However, the long and exhausting treatment may be futile without it! That is why I am appealing to you for help when there is only one step left until recovery.
Please give me a chance to return to normal life!

Respectfully, Ylyana
