Hello!
My husband, Victor, was a special forces officer in the past.
We have been together for 13 years already and half of this time
we have fought for Victor's life.
It started in 1999 when out of the blue my husband was diagnosed
with melanoma (skin cancer). He went through a surgery, chemotherapy
and radiation therapy. Fortunately, he was able to achieve remission.
In 2000 in the Chechen Republic Victor tripped a mine and suffered multiple
injuries and lost his left wrist. And a year later melanoma relapsed.
During those two years Victor had several surgeries and chemotherapy courses.
The next relapse happened in 2005 and entailed another surgery and chemotherapy.
Afterwards, for six years we had relatively calm existence, until this summer a
new disaster has come: my husband was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome
(preleukemic condition).
Doctors from Yaroslavl sent Victor to St. Petersburg to consult with specialists
from R.M. Gorbacheva Memorial Institute of Children Hematology and Transplantation.
Here it was decided to perform bone marrow transplantation. Since Victor does not
have any related donors, his only chance is unrelated donor transplantation.
There were about forty potential donors found in the International Register of
Bone Marrow Donors. However it is necessary to pay 15,000 euros to choose the best
match among them, and 2,500 euros more to deliver the transplant to St. Petersburg.
Victor is a retired disabled person; I am a lab assistant in a hospital. Our family is
not capable of raising such a huge amount. However we cannot give up. We have a son,
Sasha, who is 9 years of age, and he needs his beloved father.
Please help us find money to treat my husband. Give him a chance to get well!
Thank you in advance!
Stay healthy.
Olga

Update as of January 8, 2012.
Victor is being monitored by hematologists locally, in Yaroslavl,
and his blood counts are low. Therapy with Dacogen is being discussed
to control blast growth until a donor is found.
Thanks to AdVita fund
donors, funds for the first installment (5000 euros) were raised,
but additional 10,000 euros are required to pay for harvesting of
bone marrow from a donor, and 2500 euros for delivery of transplant.
In addition, if Dacogen will not be received under federal quota of
free medications, Victor will need help with paying for the drug.
Update as of March 19, 2012.
A donor was found, and transplantation was scheduled for
May (date is being verified).
Update as of April 25, 2012.
Victor is not feeling very well: after the treatment with Dacogen he
is having periods of elevated temperature. He has also had stomatitis.
The transplantation is scheduled for May 19.
