Hello,
My name is Olga. I am a mother of a 9-year-old Vladimir. He vacationed this summer
at his great-grandmother's dacha. The summer was great, and Vova spent days
playing with his friends. Suddenly, he started complaining of serious headaches
and pain in his groin. We called ambulance, but it did not come, as the dispatcher
claimed it must be due to overheating and it does not present a problem. We took
Vova to the Municipal hospital ourselves. There, he was treated for meningitis for 2.5 weeks,
but he only got worse. So Vova was referred for MRI, which showed a lesion in his lung. We
were hospitalized at Municipal hospital No.31, where Vova was finally diagnosed with
t-lymphoblastic lymphoma in mediastinum, left lung, testicle, and central nervous system, stage IV.
We already completed the 1st chemotherapy cycle, and Vova feels much better.
He is now again interested in his favorite computer games, and he started walking a little at a time.
However, we still have a long-term treatment and recovery ahead of us.
Because of this, we lost many friends. Only Vova's great-grandmother is helping us. Volodya's
father and I are divorced, and he does not want to hear about us at all.
Vova currently needs expensive medications: Antithrombin, which costs 25,000 rubles,
and antibiotics Neoton and Maxipime.
We are asking for financial aid with buying these medications. We will be very grateful for any help.
Update as of October 24, 2010.
After an Antithrombin course artery blood passage was restored.
A week ago Volodya had another chemotherapy course and was then discharged
from hospital for a few days so that he can have a rest at home.
The third treatment course has begun today. Volodya has problems with
it and is troubled by nausea.
The good thing is that the boy's state of mind has improved considerably
after he started going to a psychologist. Volodya made friends with
other children at the unit, and when his condition permits he asks
to take him to the playroom to be with other kids, which is a huge
progress as only a month ago Volodya refused to talk to
anyone including the doctors.
Update as of November 14, 2010.
Based on CT san results, Volodya is in remission and has no
lesions with contrast uptake. Volodya feels well. However,
he still needs to complete a cycle of high-dose therapy to
strengthen results. Prior to chemotherapy, Volodya was
allowed to go home for a few days.
Update as of February 28, 2011.
Volodya started two-month long re-induction cycle on February 1.
He feels OK except for some nausea. The doctors are concerned about
the risk of thrombosis and Volodya is not allowed to go home.
He is under constant monitoring. Vova is continuing his studies
of math and Russian with his mom and he started enjoying them.
Update as of March 31, 2011.
Volodya completed main treatment course and is now in remission.
He will now receive maintenance therapy in pills for 18 months and
will be tested every 2 weeks.
Volodya and his mom are very grateful to everyone who has been
helping and supporting them during treatment!
Thank you very much!
Update as of April 5, 2011.
Volodya's blood counts plummeted and he returned to the
hospital for blood transfusions and examinations.
Update as of August 24, 2011.
On August 3rd Volodya got a headache and he started vomiting.
The next day he and his mom were already at the hospital and
the tests showed that he had a relapse (fortunately, his bone
marrow is cancer free). Volodya is now receiving anti-relapse
chemotherapy with Cytosar, Doxorubicin and Methotrexate.
He finished two cycles and has four more to go. Afterwards his
stem cells will be harvested for autologous transplantation.
Volodya's condition is serious and his blood counts
are critically low.
Update as of September 20, 2011.
Volodya is undergoing the 3rd cycle of chemotherapy and
tolerates it well. He receives hormonal drugs and wants
to eat constantly. Based on CSF essay as of September 16th,
it has no cancer cells. The next puncture will be scheduled
after Volodya finishes current cycle.
Update as of October 14, 2011.
October 11 marked the start of the 4th chemotherapy course.
Vova is feeling fine, running around the ward, doing maths
with his mom. Once this chemotherapy course is over, bone
marrow sampling for the autotransplantation will be performed.
Update as of November 10, 2011.
Volodya feels well. Pre-transplantation chemotherapy regimen is
currently under discussion. He may need expensive medication, tepadina.
Volodya's mom are very grateful to representative Yulia Rimmer
who organized the kids' trip to the circus. She said that Vova
was indescribably happy and has not laughed as much in a long time.
Update as of November 29, 2011.
It was decided that Volodya will start pre-transplantation
chemotherapy with Tepadina. A permit to import this medication is
being processed. We expect a bill for the medication shortly.
The drug will cost close to 8,000 euros.
Update as of January 12, 2012.
Unfortunately, planned tests at the end of December discovered a relapse.
Volodya is now undergoing anti-relapse cycle of chemotherapy at City Hospital No.31.
The bill for tepadina was paid from donations sent to all patients. As soon as
Volodya achieves remission, transplantation will be performed immediately.
Update as of January 24, 2012.
Vova feels well. He is now at the hospital where he had a cycle of
chemotherapy with Atriance. Once more cycle is planned to be followed by
preparation for bone marrow transplantation.
One cycle of Atriance costs 220,500 rubles. The bill was issued to AdVita fund,
but not yet paid, as money was not raised yet. Next week, we need to order
medication for the next cycle.
Vova is responding very well to Atriance. His blast count dropped to 5%
from 90%. To strengthen results, Vova needs DepoCyt which will need
to be imported. Tepadina, drug for transplantation, was paid by
AdVita fund using donations sent to all patients.
Update as of February 26, 2012.
Volodya is undergoing the second cycle of therapy with Atriance. Right after completing
the cycle and recovery of his blood counts, autologous transplantation will be performed.
Volodya feels well. He takes hormonal therapy and eats very well. His mom has a hard time
cooking enough. He learned to play chess and his partner is usually Danya Lutokhin.
Update as of March 11, 2012.
Vova had a hard time tolerating another infusion of Atriance: he had worsening of
pancreatitis and was transferred on intravenous nutrition. He also has serious
neurological complications: he cannot get up, but retains sensitivity. Vova receives
appropriate therapy. On March 30th Volodya is due to be hospitalized at R. Gorbacheva
Institute, but it may be postponed due to neurological issues.
Update as of March 26, 2012.
Vova feels better, but he cannot yet stand or walk by himself.
Rehabilitation procedures are under discussion, and the neurologists
are split on the need for massage therapy.
Update as of April 19, 2012.
The last few days Volodya had difficulty swallowing (last week the boy had
to be fed via a tube since he did not eat himself), he was coughing, sometimes
with purulent discharge. In the evening of April 18 the cough lead to a convulsive
attack with a momentary respiratory arrest. Volodya was urgently transferred to the
intensive care unit. The boy is now a little better, he is back to the ward. The
doctors are trying to identify the reasons of his problems. Volodya is going to be
examined.
Update as of April 23, 2012.
The tests discovered bilateral pneumonia caused by fungal infection in Volodya's
lungs, as well as a viral infection. Volodya take Cancidas and other medications.
He now has appetite, but it is hard for him to eat. In the next few days he will
have immunologic tests.
Update as of May 11, 2012.
Unfortunately Volodya Telegin has a relapse. He doesn't feel
well and has become very weak. The boy was diagnosed with gastrostoma.
