Good day! My name is Larisa Maslennikova. I am asking for help for my son
Vladimir with treatment of cancer. Volodya is 31. His main diagnosis is stage
IV-B lymphogranulomatosis with nodular sclerosis and metastases in peripheral
lymph nodes, spleen and lungs. The main complication is stage III cytological
neutropenia. Vladimir needs highly complex therapy.
My husband and I are retired. Our pensions are small and we cannot afford
quality treatment and food for our son.

Medical conclusion
Update as of September 6, 2008.
Vladimir is undergoing a course of chemotherapy at City hospital No.31.
He is now in cytopenia. He is planned to undergo MRI and PET scan, which
cost is estimated to be 25,000 – 30,000 rubles. Vladimir's family is in a
very difficult financial situation. We are asking Vladimir's supporters to
send their donations for food and living expenses to his mom's savings
account.
Update as of October 4, 2008.
Vladimir developed serious complications due to chemotherapy. PET scan is being
delayed for now. Vladimir needs help with paying for the current tests and
examinations, which amounts to 10,000 rubles.
Update as of December 8, 2008.
Vladimir completed six rounds of chemotherapy. He is currently at Mycology
Research Institute due to fungal sepsis. He may need Vfend therapy, based
on the test results.
Update as of February 25, 2009.
Based on results of testing, mycology specialists switched Vladimir from
Orungal to Vfend therapy (200 mg twice a day). A package of the drug that
costs 25,000 rubles lasts Vladimir a week.

Update as of May 31, 2009.
Vladimir was discharged from the Mycology Institute after the doctors took
his aspergillosis under control. He was taken off Vfend. Vladimir needs to
be under the monitoring of hematologists. He is in remission in regards to
his main illness.
Update as of October 1, 2009.
Based on test results, Vladimir had a relapse. He was hospitalized at
Almazov Federal Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Center for chemotherapy
to be followed by autologous transplantation. The collection of bone
marrow for autotransplantation had already taken place.

Vladimir needs to undergo PET imaging on November 27th. It will cost 16,000
rubles. Please help!
Update as of December 8, 2009.
Based on PET imaging results, Vladimir has disease progression. He was
hospitalized at the clinic for autologous bone marrow transplant.
Update as of February 3, 2010.
Vladimir's autotransplantation has been postponed again.
He is now going through a chemotherapy course at the
Almazov center and is feeling ok.
Update as of May 9, 2010.
Volodya is now at Almazov clinic. He underwent several chemotherapy
cycles, and the last cycle was with high dosage chemotherapy.
Volodya felt very unwell after it.
Bone marrow transplantation was performed on March 26th.
The procedure was successful. However, afterwards my son had fever,
and got runny nose and pain in his throat. He is now gradually
recovering.

Vladimir does not feel very well: he has problems with his
kidneys and was diagnosed with a fungal infection again.
He needs Vfend. Volodya is being monitored by the specialists
from Mycology Research Institute.

Update as of July 3, 2010.
Volodya is now at home and he is continuing Vfend therapy. After
transplantation, he achieved partial remission. Next month he is
planned to undergo PET and based on the results further treatment will
be discussed. PET will cost 16,000 rubles.
Update as of July 27, 2010.
Volodya is now at home, but he is monitored by a hematologist and mycologist.
He takes Vfend (600 mg a day). In the next few days, he needs to undergo CT
scan on 4 zones. The results of it will also help determine Vfend dosage.
In September Volodya will need to go for PET scan. He is in a pretty good mood.
He takes his kids for walks and tries to not think about his disease.
And we help him with that and support him.

Update as of September 8, 2010.
Volodya continues taking Vfend in the same dosage (600 ml daily). He had CT scan and other tests.
On September 7th Volodya had bronchoscopy. The results will show whether his Vfend dosage can be
reduced. He feels rather well, takes medications and goes for walks. Volodya eats anything he wants,
and we do not limit him in anything and help as much as we can.

Update as of September 22, 2010.
Volodya was examined at Kashkin Mycology Institute. Based on results, Vfend dosage was lowered
to 400 mg/day. In six weeks, Volodya will go for control tests. For his primary diagnosis, Volodya is
monitored at Almazov Federal Center of Heart, Blood and Endocrinology.

Update as of October 30, 2010.
Volodya is continuing to take Vfend (400 mg/day). Currently he has herpes infection and
he started therapy. An examination at Mycology Institute and PET imaging are planned.
Update as of November 24, 2010.
After the treatment, the herpes infection
does not appear anymore. Vladimir has to take Vfend till the end of
November. In December he would have a computer tomography of the lungs and
the results would show if he needs to continue to take Vfend. Also Vladimir
needs to have PET at Oncology Research center.
Update as of December 24, 2010.
Volodya is now at home, on the maintenance therapy, he also takes Vfend.
He does not show that he is sick, goes for walks outside and takes care
of his son. We are trying to help him with everything. Volodya is
scheduled to take CT scan and PET shortly and the doctors are going
to make treatment decisions based on the test results. We are sincerely
grateful to Advita for the help that we are receiving, for medications
and payments for the tests. We would not have been able to afford
these payments ourselves.

Update as of January 17, 2011.
Based on CT of lungs, a new lesion was found in right lung with
unclear nature. Volodya will undergo tests at Mycology Institute
and Almazov Institute to understand what it is.
PET is scheduled for February.
Update as of February 28, 2011.
Volodya is undergoing tests at Kashkin Mycology Institute.
He will have CT scan and bronchoscopy. Volodya receives antibiotics and Vfend.
He is now at home and is staying strong. We are grateful to all donors
for their support.

Update as of June 2, 2011.
Due to complications after pneumonia and fever,
examination was postponed. Volodya now feels better and his
temperature is back to normal. Volodya is at home and he takes Vfend.
CT scan is scheduled for early June.
Update as of July 5, 2011.
Volodya still has not been able to undergo CT scan - first, the
machine was broken, and then Volodya had a cold and was taking
antibiotics. He now feels better and started going for walks more often.
In the next few days he undergo complete evaluation at Almazov Research Center.

Volodya is now having follow-up examinations: pulmonologist, hematologist, mycologist.
Blood counts are not bad. He is feeling ok.
Update as of November 12, 2011.
Based on CT scan, Vladimir still has lesions in his lungs.
At Almazov Institute he had a biopsy of the lesions. To check on
his primary diagnosis, PET scan is planned for the next few days.
Vfend is still needed.
Update as of November 29, 2011.
Based on a biopsy results, the lesions in Volodya's lungs
are due to his primary illness. He is due to undergo PET scan.
Further treatment is being discussed. Vfend is still needed.

Volodya was hospitalized at Almazov Federal Center. If his brother is
a good match based on typing results, he will become a donor, and
Volodya will undergo urgent transplantation. Vfend is still needed.

Vladimir is now at home. He feels rather well. The results of the tests
for tissue compatibility with his brother are not yet ready. Additional
chemotherapy cycles are being considered.

Vladimir is done with a maintenance chemotherapy course, he is feeling ok.
The decision on the bone marrow transplantation hasn't been made yet.
