Vladimir died on August 16, 2010
Hello,
My name is Vladimir Anatolievich Efimov. I was born in 1963. For the last
seven years I have been fighting chronic myeloid leukemia.
I am writing this letter to ask for help. The long-term therapy did not produce
desired results, but I still have a chance to beat my disease – bone marrow
transplantation. The donor has to be located at the international registry and
the cost of the search is enormous: 15,000 euros, plus additional 2,500 euros
for delivery of transplant to St. Petersburg. I work as an ambulance driver at
the Central hospital in Slantsy, and this amount is out of reach for me.
Please help me use this chance. I know that there are people who care for those
in pain and suffering.
Vladimir Anatolievich Efimov
Bill for the donor search in Germany
Update as of March 7, 2010.
Vladimir is now in Slantsy where he is taking Dasatinib in pills.
His blood counts improved somewhat (leukocytes increased to 2.6 from
0.8, his hemoglobin is 105 and platelet count is a bit low at 50).
Vladimir goes for tests 1-2 times a week, locally in Slantsy and then
calls his treating doctor. He has received barely any
donations for the donor search.
Update as of March 30, 2010.
Vladimir Anatolievich is continuing
chemotherapy in pills. His leukocyte count increased, although platelets
are still low. He feels rather well. Vladimir is working on applying for a
quota for hospitalization for tests at the Regional hospital.
Update as of May 19, 2010.
Based on puncture results, Vladimir had some improvement. A matching donor
was found for Vladimir and transplantation is scheduled for June. He urgently
needs to raise 13,000 euros to pay off the debt to S. Morsch registry.
Update as of June 6, 2010.
Transplantation is scheduled for June 24. Vladimir owes 10,000 euros to
the registry. He also has no money to pay for delivery of transplant.
Update as of July 3, 2010.
Transplantation took place on schedule.
Vladimir is now in cytopenia, but he feels relatively well.
