Hello!
My son Vladislav Doronin is 14 years old. In October 2009 he was
taken to the hospital with appendicitis and was urgently operated.
But then he had severe bleeding, developed peritonitis and was diagnosed
with intestinal scarring. It was terrifying.
The blood and bone marrow tests showed that Vladik has myeloblastic leukemia.
He had three surgeries in a month, and very few people thought he would
survive. But Vlad overcame everything thanks to his doctors and a
great desire to live.
He spent six months in a hospital, where he underwent five chemotherapy
cycles and achieved remission. In April 2010 we were discharged and
allowed to go home. Vlad had many plans, but in less than three
months he had a relapse.
The doctors told us that Vlad's life can now be saved only by bone
marrow transplantation. We are now at R. Gorbacheva Institute.
Vlad's brother was not a good match, so I am planned to be his donor.
All of this requires significant financial expenditures. We have
no money - we live in a village and I am a single mother.
I had to leave my work to come to St. Petersburg and support my son
in his fight for his life.
Dear friends, we really need your help. Vlad is only 14 and he
really wants to live. Please help my son!
Update as of September 6, 2010.
Due to leukemia progression (based on control puncture, bone marrow has
30% blasts), Vlad underwent urgent haploidentical transplantation from
his mother on August 27th. Equipment for the transplantation was
delivered based on AdVita fund's guarantee letter, and money to pay
it off was not yet raised. Vlad is now in cytopenia. His condition is
serious, and he has nausea and fever. It is complicated by aspergillosis
in his lungs and bacterial pneumonia, which were discovered prior to
transplantation. Vlad urgently needs Vfend in capsules and a nebulizer.
Update as of October 4, 2010.
Unfortunately, after transplantation Vlad recovered with blasts.
The blood samples do show a small donor's cells percentage, so it
is now important to stimulate their growth. On September 15th Vlad
underwent chemotherapy followed by donor's lymphocyte infusion
and he was transferred to a local clinic,
Regional Children's Clinic in Vologda.
Vlad is now recovering. His fever is gone and he started walking.
But now his condition is complicated by an infection in his lungs.
Vlad needed Ampholip and AdVita fund sent it to Vologda so that
Vlad could start therapy.
His mom wrote to the fund: "I would like to express my sincere
gratitude to all supporters who donated money for Vlad's treatment.
hank you very much! I would also like to thank Olga (unfortunately,
I do not know her last name) from Samara and her nephew Kostya for
their understanding and support, their help, and their kind hearts!
Thank you, everyone! You are doing a holy work - helping people survive!"
Update as of October 17, 2010.
Based on control puncture, Vlad has 0.4% of blasts. In Vologda, a test to check for
bone marrow engraftment is not available. As soon as an acute infection in Vlad's
lungs is under control, he will come to St. Petersburg for an examination and
discussion of further treatment.
Update as of November 23, 2010.
Vlad came to St. Petersburg for the tests. The tests show that the
transplant did not engraft, but chemotherapy was helpful and Vlad
is now in remission. The further treatment is being discussed.
Update as of December 9, 2010.
Vlad is now at home, in Vologda. He underwent complete examination
on November 29th. There is a significant improvement in lungs,
he was taken off Vfend. The next testing is scheduled for the end
of December. The decision about a further treatment strategy has
not been made yet. Vlad feels ok, he studies at home.
Update as of December 28, 2010.
Unfortunately, based on control puncture, Vlad has 20% of blasts in
bone marrow. Further treatment is under discussion.
