Dear friends,
our college friend, Victor Didenko, urgently needs help.
He is now 55. Victor graduated from journalism department
of Leningrad State University.
Victor suffers from chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was
diagnosed in 2006, at municipal hospital No.31 in St. Petersburg?
In the years since Victor went through more than 15 cycles of
chemotherapy. Unfortunately, disease is progressing. Our friend can
only be saved by bone marrow transplantation, which has to be done
as soon as possible.
Donor search at the international registry of bone marrow donors
costs 15,000 euros. In addition, delivery of transplant to St. Petersburg
costs 2,500 euros. For Vcitor's family this amount is completely out of reach.
This is why he had to ask his friends and classmates for help. During October,
with our combined efforts, when everyone pitched in as much as they could, we
raised close to 100,000 rubles. This allowed us to activate donor search at
the international registry. Victor has many potential donors which gives him
good chances for success. Now the best match will have to be selected, and
that requires paying the rest of the amount.
We are not stopping now, and will continue raising funds. We would like to ask
everyone who can to help Victor. Despite his serious illness, Victor is holding up.
He has a very good family, two daughters and a great grandson who brings him a lot of
joy, and gives strength to continue fighting and living.
We believe that world is made of good people and we hope for you understanding
and support. Thank you in advance!
Respectfully,
friends and classmates
of Victor Didenko
Update as of January 8, 2012.
Before the New Year holidays, Victor's friends and relatives were able to
raise and transfer 6,000 euros to the registry. A donor search was started.
Now Victor needs to raise 9,000 euros to pay off the bill, as well as 2500
euros for delivery of transplant. Victor is now monitored at City
Hospital No.31 where he receives maintenance chemotherapy and blood
transfusions. He feels relatively well.
Update as of January 29, 2012.
A donor for Victor was found, and transplantation was preliminarily
scheduled for March. There are funds for delivery of transplant,
but close to 6000 euros need to be paid to the registry of donors.
Prior to transplantation, Victor will undergo scheduled chemotherapy.
Update as of February 11, 2012.
Victor's transplantation was scheduled for March 7.
Update as of May 2, 2012.
Unfortunately, Victor developed a grave form of GVHD with skin
involvement that did not respond to any treatment.
