Hello!
I am Vladimir Aksenov's mother. We arrived in St. Petersburg for
treatment from the Krasnoyarsk Territory. In 2000 my son was
diagnosed with aplastic anemia, and in 2005 he went through bone
marrow transplantation at Russian Children's Clinical Hospital in
Moscow. Transplantation was followed by a complication: chronic
graft versus host reaction in lungs.
Vova is receiving a course of photopheresis on special equipment at Raisa
Gorbacheva Center of Pediatric Hematology and Transplantology. Vova needs
Vifend and Pulmicort, but the medicines are not available in the hospital.
We do not have enough money to buy them, because they are very expensive and
should be taken for a long period of time.
Vova is happy that finally he has a chance to get rid of all complications
that occurred after transplantation. He has a lot of hobbies, and loves
football and hockey, but he cannot participate in these games due to
pulmonary problems. He is also good at chess (he has the second rank),
and he likes drawing. He is now in the 11th grade and is a good student.
Vova has a lot of friends. He is very sociable, polite, and kind person.
We are asking all good people to help us with buying the medicine and we
will appreciate any help.
Update as of July 5, 2011.
Vova is continuing a course of photopheresis, but since his skin
condition improved, his doses of hormones are being reduced and
photopheresis will be done twice a month instead of weekly.
Vfend is still needed. Between photopheresis sessions,
Vova will be allowed to go home. He feels well.
Update as of July 23, 2011.
Vova underwent a course of photopheresis and was
allowed to go home until September.
Update as of November 22, 2011.
Once a month Vova comes for planned course of photopheresis,
and thanks to therapy he was able to get off hormonal drugs.
Unfortunately, signs of pleural GVHD remain. Vfend is still needed,
but only as preventative measure, in the dose of 200 mg/day.
