I am asking you for your help in saving my 5-year-old son Timur
Rudyko who is sick with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Last spring,
at Easter time, my son had pains in his knee. We thought he got a
trauma at a training session (Timur does acrobatics). But the
traumatologist did not confirm our guess. The pains became frequent,
and the boy got a fever too. The doctors in Komsomolsk-na-Amure
(that's the name of the town where we live) could not arrive at a
diagnosis. We heard the terrible news at the oncohematology unit of
the Khabarovsk Children's Hospital: our son has acute lymphoblastic
leukemia. A very hard and lengthy treatment course began, but there
were no results: remission hasn't been achieved.
At present we are at the Raisa Gorbacheva Institute of Children's
Hematology and Transplantology where Timur is administered high-dose
chemotherapy and prepared for the bone marrow transplantation. There
is no compatible relative donor for him, so his only chance to recover
is to try and find a donor in the International Bone Marrow Donors Registry.
We are very grateful to the Rossiisky Fond Pomoschi fund for the 10,000 euros
they raised for us – we can now transfer this sum to the registry. But we
need another 5,000 euros to cover the costs of the donor search,
plus 2,500 more for the transplant delivery. Our family doesn't have
such funds, because for the past 6 months my husband has been the only
wage earner. We do so want to see our little boy healthy and happy again!

Since Timur has a very high risk of relapse, it was decided
to start another cycle of high-dose chemotherapy under BFM regimen.
A donor was not found yet.
Update as of November 30, 2011.
Timur is finishing another cycle of anti-relapse chemotherapy and his
blood counts are starting to go down. He feels rather well, but is tired
of the hospitals, treatments and is not very happy. A donor was not found
still, unfortunately.
Update as of December 30, 2011.
Timur is being monitored as a day patient. Since a donor was not found yet,
another cycle of high-dose chemotherapy is planned.
Timur feels relatively well.
Update as of February 8, 2012.
In January Timur underwent the 6th, last cycle of high dose chemotherapy.
After recovering, he was discharged and now receives therapy under
maintenance regimen as a day patient. He feels well and is in remission.
Unfortunately, a donor was still not found.
Update as of February 22, 2012.
Timur is being followed as a day patient. He receives Purinethol and
Methotrexate under maintenance regimen and feels well. A donor was not found yet.
Update as of April 11, 2012.
Timur is being followed as a day patient and feels rather well.
He continues to be treated under maintenance regimen. Timur regularly
sees an osteopath, as complications - leg pain - appeared after high
dose chemotherapy. His latest great interest is the Japanese
Bakugan cartoon series.
