Hello, my name is Tatiana Kostrikova. I was born on August 11, 1953 in
Astrakhan Region. I live in a village of Miny, district Gatchina,
Leningrad Region. Since 1977 I have been working as a village pediatrician.
I have a wonderful family: affectionate and loving husband, two daughters,
sons-in-law, grandchildren and my mother, who is 87 now.
I suffer from acute lymphoblastic leukemia. First signs of the disease – bruises
that did not dissolve for a long time - appeared in July 2009.
In November 2009 I tripped and fell down and developed large hematomas on my left
hip and shin as a result. They did not go away for a long time.
In September 2010 blood tests revealed a decrease in platelet counts and an
increase in blast count. The district doctor referred me to the Leningrad Regional
Clinical Hospital for consultation. However, a hematologist could only see me at
the end of December 2010. Following a bone marrow biopsy and blood tests conducted
at the hospital I was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and refractory anemia
with excess blasts.
In February 2011 I was hospitalized at the oncohematological department of
Leningrad Regional Clinical Hospital, and in April blood tests revealed an
increase in leukocyte counts.
In August I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. A chemotherapy
cycle was administered, followed by unstable remission. In that condition
I was hospitalized at the bone marrow transplantation department of
R. Gorbacheva Institute of Pediatric Hematology and Transplantology on
October 31, 2011. I was lucky, as my older brother became my donor, and
a related bone marrow transplantation was performed on November 9th.
Currently I am recovering from the transplantation. I am still hospitalized
at the bone marrow transplantation department. The recovery after the procedure
requires time and resources, both emotional and financial. I need an expensive
antifungal medication Vfend, one pack of which costs 27,000 rubles. It lasts a
week, but the drug itself has to be taken regularly for months.
I sincerely hope that there are kind and generous people who can donate some
money for my further treatment. For 34 years I have helped children and adults
overcome illness, and now I need help myself.
Please help me live. I would love to see my mother and hear the happy laughter
of my grandchildren again.
I hope that my husband and I will be able to celebrate our 35th wedding
anniversary in April 2012. I hope that there are people in this world who
will help me.
My wholehearted thank-you goes to all the medical staff of Leningrad Regional
Clinical Hospital, R. Gorbacheva Institute of Pediatric Hematology and Transplantology
and the staff of AdVita Fund in St. Petersburg. Thank you for your support and
professionalism, generosity and compassion, thank you for the work you do!
Update as of February 22, 2012.
Tatiana was diagnosed with hypofunctioning transplant and she received
lymphocyte infusion from her brother to stimulate bone marrow.
She has no signs of GVHD. Tatiana feels well. Vfend is still needed.
