Hello!
My name is Tatiana, and I am asking for help. In spring of this year, my
husband Sergei was diagnosed with B-prolymphocytic leukemia, stage 4A (or
acute lymphoblastic leukemia pre-B-variant). He started a long and
expensive treatment. After high-dosage chemotherapy, while Sergei was in
cytopenia, he developed invasive mycosis with damage to lungs and pleura.
He needs antifungal therapy.
Unfortunately, chemotherapy is not enough for treatment of Sergei's
disease. He needs bone marrow transplantation. Sergei has become
disabled, and I work for government and unable to earn much. We are hoping
for your help. We will be very grateful to everyone who will be able to
help us. We need such medications as Vfend, Cancidas and Neupogen (48 mil
units).
Update as of December 8, 2008.
The related transplantation from Sergei's sister is planned for the
second half of December. Sergei currently takes Orungal, but he will
need Vfend during transplantation and while he is in cytopenia. The
transplantation date is being verified.
Update as of December 13, 2008.
It is likely that myeloexfusion (stem cell harvesting for relative
transplantation) for Sergei's sister will have to be paid for, since
the patient record will have to be opened in the donor's name, and
Sergei's sister is not a citizen of Russia. If we fail to sort out
the issue, about 30,000 roubles will be needed to pay for the
harvesting of cells for transplantation.
Update as of December 25, 2008.
Sergei's transplantation is scheduled to take place after January 12.
Sergei's donor, his sister Lyudmila, was hospitalized at BMT clinic
for stem cell collection.
Update as of March 20, 2009
Sergei is in remission in regards to aspergillosis, a fungal infection.
He has started conditioning regimen prior to allogeneic transplantation
from his sister.
Update as of April 15, 2009.
Sergei has had a successful transplantation, he is being discharged for
ambulatory treatment. He still needs Vfend until all hormones and
immunosuppressors are canceled.
Update as of May 12, 2009.
Sergei continues to receive Vfend while he is on outpatient monitoring
at 400 mg a day dosage. He feels relatively well.
Update as of June 3, 2009.
Sergei feels well and the donor’s bone marrow
engrafted fully. He still needs to continue Vfend therapy at 400 mg a day
dosage.
Update as of July 15, 2009.
Sergei feels well and left to countryside for a month. He still needs
Vfend as immunosuppressive therapy has not yet been canceled.
Update as of August 23, 2009.
Immunosuppressive therapy was canceled.
Sergei is planned to undergo CT scan to evaluate his lungs' condition. For
now, Sergei still needs to take Vfend.
Update as of September 8, 2009.
Based on CT scan results, Sergei is doing well and shows no signs of
aspergillosis. For now, Sergei temporarily stopped Vfend therapy.
In the next few days, he will be hospitalized at Mycology Institute for
complete examination.
Update as of October 2, 2009.
Sergei underwent complete examination at Kashkin Mycology Institute. He
was confirmed to be in complete remission and no longer requires Vfend.
Sergei feels well.
Update as of January 27, 2010.
Sergei feels well. He is tested monthly at the clinic.
Update as of March 26, 2010.
Sergei is at home and feels well. However, he tested positive for
aspergillosis again. He was prescribed Vfend at 400 mg a day.
Update as of July 20, 2010.
Sergei is now being monitored by a pulmonologist. He has issues with
his lungs, although the reason for them is unclear. The tests for
various infections are negative, and appearance of GVHD in
lungs a year after transplantation is unlikely.
Sergei is now taking hormonal therapy and broncholytics, and he has
had small improvement based on the last CT scan. He is in remission
in regards to primary diagnosis.
Update as of December 22, 2010.
Sergei feels well. He is in remission in regards to leukemia and
aspergillosis. Sergei has mild symptoms of pleural GVHD and
receives low doses of hormonal therapy.
