I would like to ask everyone for help.
My name is Svetlana, I am Alexander Ulanov's mother. Alexander is 19 years old. He is a very kind, responsive and optimistic person! We had never imagined that such a disaster would happen to us…
In October 2010, Sasha was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. The cycles of chemotherapy that he received did not produce expected results. There was only one option left: bone marrow transplant.
On June 30, 2011 Sasha received bone marrow transplant from his younger brother at R. Gorbacheva Institute of Hematology and Transplantology. But the related transplant did not engraft and now Sasha urgently needs an unrelated donor. Until a donor is found, Sasha will have to continue chemotherapy.
There is a saying that one can't buy health for money, but it does not apply to my son. The life and health of my child depends on finding 15000 euros! This is the amount we need to pay for an unrelated donor search, and additional 2500 euros are needed for the delivery of the transplant. For us the amount is out of reach. My husband is the only breadwinner, as I stay in the hospital with Sasha, and we have one more son, Sasha's younger brother. I really hope that people who visit my son's page will respond and help us raise the money, so that my son will be given one more chance to LIVE!

Discharge summary

Update as of August 10, 2011. Sasha was again having blast growth and on September 6th he underwent haploidentical transplantation from his mother. He is now in cytopenia. A search for 100% compatible unrelated donor needs to start as soon as possible.

Update as of September 22, 2011. Sasha's blood counts are still low and he also has fever. Due to nausea and vomiting, he cannot eat. Puncture results are not ready yet. AdVita fund transferred the first installment of 2,000 euros using funds sent to all patients and a donor search was initiated. Sasha urgently needs help!

Update as of October 10, 2011. Sasha has an acute intestinal GVH reaction and spent some time in intensive care. Now his condition is stable again, GVH reaction is under control, the fever is gone, and Sasha is back to the ward.
There are still breathing problems, plus Sasha has a high cytomegalovirus and aspergillosis titre. The boy is getting Cansidas, Vfend and Cymevene. Also, Sasha needs special nutrition - Modulen.
Blood counts remain low but Sasha is feeling a lot better.

Update as of October 28, 2011. Situation is stable and Sasha feels rather well. A donor was found and transplantation was scheduled for late November. Sasha needs to continue Vfend therapy.

Update as of November 10, 2011. Sasha was diagnosed with pneumonia of mixed etiology and cytomegaloviral infection. He was transferred to ICU due to breathing difficulty caused by accumulation of fluid in his pleura (hydrothorax) where he had pleural puncture. Based on bone marrow puncture, blast percentage is slightly above norm (5.8%). Transplantation is preliminarily scheduled for the end of November.

Update as of November 29, 2011. Transplantation took place as scheduled. Sasha is now in cytopenia. Unfortunately, he has pneumonia and it is not yet controlled.
