Hello!
I am Serezha Maltsev's mom. He is 15 years old. I have three children and
Serezha is the youngest, our long-awaited. My husband and I really wanted
and son and then Serezha was born.
A year ago he was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome. With this
disease, bone marrow makes blast cells and the disease can transform
into leukemia at any time.
Before bone marrow transplantation became a treatment option, patients
with this disease had no chances to live. At first, Serezha could not
be properly diagnosed, as in our city, Kirov, it is not possible.
Then we were monitored in Moscow and when a bone marrow donor was
found for Serezha, we came to St. Petersburg for transplantation.
On April 14th, Serezha underwent bone marrow transplantation.
However, afterwards he was diagnosed with fungal infection of lungs.
Serezha needs to be treated with Vfend, a medication that costs
27,000 rubles for a package. This is a huge amount of money
for our family!
We believe that everything will be OK. Serezha really wants to return home.
He has lots of plans for the future. Since the early childhood he wanted
to become a trick driver.
We are really hoping for help from the caring people.
Update as of June 23, 2011.
We are sincerely grateful to AiF Kind Heart fund for buying 5
packs of Vfend and 5 packs of immunoglobulin (Octagam) for Serezha!
Update as of July 5, 2011.
Based on control evaluation results, Serezha has remission, and
donor's bone marrow is working well. The doctors are allowing
Serezha go home, and he will return for evaluation in a month.
Vfend was replaced by orungal, which Serezha will have to take
for a long time.
Update as of October 30, 2011.
Serezha came in for another round of tests. He developed moderate
skin GVHD and he was prescribed hormonal therapy and several ointments.
He is in remission.
