Hello!
My name is Natalia. I am a 2nd year student at Philosophy department of
Lomonosov Moscow State University. About a month ago, my mother was issued a
final diagnosis: ovarian cancer, peritoneal carcinomatosis, and ascites.
We went to several medical centers for help, but were told that we need to
undergo treatment in the region we are from, or offered operation that cost
100,000 rubles or more. My mother started suffering from severe pain. Then
we were advised to visit specialized clinic at Blokhin Russian Oncology
Center, which we did. There my mother was prescribed three chemotherapy
courses with Paclitaxel and Carboplatin, for which we paid close to 120,000
rubles. A puncture cost us 10,000 rubles.
Now my mother is planned for hospitalization that will include operation,
for which we will also have to pay. Currently, since my mother cannot work
and I cannot look for a job as I study and care for my mother, we really
need financial help. We will be grateful for any help.
Update as of April 14, 2009.
My mother was hospitalized today. She feels well, even though sometimes
the pain comes back.
Natalia
Update as of April 23, 2009.
Yesterday, Sanzhima was operated. According to the surgeon, preoperative
chemotherapy favorably affected the process and reduced the tumor. During
the operation, the tumor was removed. Sanzhima is now in the room and she
is resting. Overall, she is in a satisfactory condition.

Update as of June 4, 2009.
A few days ago, Sanzhima returned home after the second round of
chemotherapy that was administered after the surgery in April.
Unfortunately, Sanzima was not able to obtain quota for free
treatment for the latest hospitalization, so our fund had to
find and purchase Mitotax medication that cost 27,000 rubles for her.
Sanzhima feels well now, and in the next few days she and her daughter
Natasha will try to get a quota for the third round of chemotherapy
that had to start in about 10 days.

Update as of June 30, 2009.
Sanzhima was discharged after another chemotherapy round. She lost a
lot of weight. However, despite difficult time tolerating chemotherapy physically,
Sanzhima feels well and is in a good mood.

Update as of August 4, 2009.
My mom was administered another chemotherapy round, which she had a
hard time tolerating. She had to take painkillers, but gradually
she is starting to feel better. Once the chemotherapy block was over,
my mom spent several days at the hospital and was discharged two days ago.
For that chemotherapy round, it was difficult to pull the quota out of
the Health and Social Development Ministry of Russia. We had to spend
days going around various departments and offices. When it was finally
approved, the scheduled date for chemotherapy round had already passed.
In addition to all her other problems, my mom was laid off from her job.
We are trying to come to terms with it. Please help us with paying
apartment rent.
Natalia
Update as of October 8, 2009.
It has been 2-2.5 months since the last chemotherapy, so it was time
to go for the next round of tests. Unfortunately, the initial tests
produced worrisome results – "something" was found on my
mother's right side. The doctors are not yet sure what it is. We need
to finish the other tests. My mom is very upset about this.
In addition to this, we face problems with paying apartment rent.
My mom just recently found a job and has not yet been paid. Her salary
is not very big, because she is working part-time. Even though she
is contraindicated any stress, my mom started working, because we
have no other choice. As a student, I have hard time studying and
keeping a job, and it is difficult to find a suitable job. I hope
that someday I will be able to find a good job.
Please help us pay apartment rent.
Natalia
Update as of January 1, 2010.
Mom is doing well. Thank God, the test results were good!
Natalia
Update as of April 27, 2010.
Today my mom and I received her test results. Unfortunately,
they are not good: the oncomarker was 138, while the norm is 0-35.
In the afternoon we already saw a doctor. He said that it is a good
thing that we went for additional tests, or it would have been too
late (normally, my mom would go for tests once 1.5 - 2 months,
but she was tested earlier due to worsening of her condition).
We have a problem with money. We need to buy Paclitaxel ourselves,
or at the hospital, where it costs 30,000 rubles. The treatment
has to start tomorrow. And tomorrow my mom will undergo more tests,
because her treatment protocol may need to change.
Please help us!
Natalia
Update as of June 3, 2010.
My mom and I are forced to ask for your financial support once again.
Last month we did not pay apartment rent, as the owner agreed to wait.
And this month he asked to pay for at least a month.
Second cycle was just as painful as the first. Mom lost her hair.
Her legs, arms, and this time head also all swell up (and because of
this practically all her shoes are too small and she needs new shoes,
but unfortunately, we cannot afford them). Mom's wig is very tight
for her head. With all this, she has bad pains in her bones.
She is also very depressed.
I am now in the middle of college tests. On May 31 I finished one part,
and tomorrow will start another. I am terribly tired. At times I feel
very bad. I also got a cold and it has been lingering for awhile.
I am afraid to make my mom sick.
Tomorrow she is planned to have test and then we will know whether
she needs third cycle or not.
Natalia
Update as of July 18, 2010.
My mother's treating doctor said that she needs the third chemotherapy
cycle to achieve better results. We are enormously grateful to Victor who
again responded and helped us to pay for Paclitaxel.
I went to the doctor right away and made plans for my mother to receive
chemotherapy. On July 13th and 14th she underwent a cycle of chemo.
She is now getting better. She had the same side effects as before:
drastic worsening of her condition, so that she could not even get off
the bed, swollen legs up to her knees, loss of appetite and weight loss.
Natalia
Update as of August 18, 2010.
Yesterday my mom had tests. Unfortunately, our worst fears were
confirmed: oncomarker increased to 108, although it was only 8 a month
ago.
The doctor recommended immediate infusion of medication under the previous
protocol, but we said we cannot find the money to buy it so fast. So he
said that something needs to be done right away and prescribed less
effective drugs, which we purchased, and some were given to us by the
clinic. Tomorrow we will start the infusion.
Nevertheless, my mom needs Paclitaxel (280 ml) which she normally receives.
We have to ask for help again. Please help us buy Paclitaxel!
This time the disease is progressing quickly. My mom got ascites and tumor
nodules. She is bothered by constant abdominal colic and it became
difficult to walk. I am very worried. Sometimes I feel scared.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of September 6, 2010.
The last chemotherapy cycles was very difficult for Sanzhima. This week, no later than
September 9, she will need to start the second cycle. Sanzhima will need help again.
She and her daughter really need any support right now, including emotional support. Nastasha
is now applying for flexible schedule at college so that she has opportunity to find a job. Natasha
will be very grateful for any job offers.
If someone could help Lodoev family with paying for current expenses (they still have to pay
apartment rent, buy extra medications and just have money for living expense), we will be very grateful.
Pasha, Advita Fund's volunteer in Moscow
Update as of September 30, 2010.
Today Sanzhima went for an ultrasound, and it showed improvement.
There was no fluid in abdomen, as last time, and no lesions, but for
the full effect, my mom needs to undergo at least two more
chemotherapy cycles.
The cycle was supposed to start today, but the doctor is out and will
return only on October 4th. We need to pay 25,000 rubles for this cycle.
Please help!
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of October 17, 2010.
Mom is doing OK overall, although her feet still swell and she is
bothered by stomachaches. She can tolerate it the pain. We hope it
goes away soon. Next week she will have blood tests again to check
if she is ready for another chemotherapy cycle.
Unfortunately, we have financial issues with paying apartment rent.
I was able to talk the owner into postponing rent payment until
October 20th. We need 10,000 rubles more.
The next chemotherapy cycle will start in a week, unless it is
for some reason rescheduled.
We will be very grateful for help!
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of November 1, 2010.
On Friday, my mom had tests for oncomarker, and today we got results.
Thanks God, it went down. And today I went to the clinic, but the
doctor was not there. He is out until November 3rd, and then he will
be on holidays. He is supposed to have mom's blood test results and
we need his advice regarding 4th cycle.
In general, mom feels OK, but at times she has stinging pain in her
stomach and she reacts to any smells and feels nauseous. The black
spots look like rough skin patch in a small area. On her finger,
this spot is going away, although it left a trace. However, on her
toe it is growing and turning into a small bump, which makes walking
uncomfortable and prevents mom from wearing shoes for a long time.
This creates a lot of issues. My mom can only wear one pair of shoes
that can accommodate this toe, but it will get cold soon and we are
afraid the shoes will no longer be warm enough and she will be cold.
It will be very difficult to find new shoes to fit my mom.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of December 31, 2010.
A few days after tests, my mom got
sick with a flu. The test results are not bad and the doctor
recommended her to undergo immunotherapy after the holidays and told
us the names of medications.
I looked them up on the Internet and they are rather pricey (cost
almost as much as chemotherapy). Unfortunately, we have to ask for
your help with buying them again.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of January 12, 2011.
Last night I got medications from Lyudmila, AdVita fund's volunteer in Moscow.
Thank you very much! This week I will go to the doctor and hopefully, my mom
will start immunotherapy very soon. She feels better, and her flu
seems to retreat.
We have a problem with paying apartment rent again. We need to pay the rent
before January 19th, but lack 5,000 rubles.
We will be very grateful for help.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of March 30, 2011.
This chemotherapy cycle my mom tolerated even worse. She has unbearable
pains more frequently. The doctor said that they are side effects from
chemotherapy and after hearing about symptoms, recommended Creon.
It did not help much. On Monday, my mom had ultrasound, and the doctor
said she still has ascites. And the pains are not going away. My mom's
treating doctor examined her and had an opinion that she may have
developed new tumors and referred her to a surgeon, who did not find
anything new and thought that the pain is due to chemotherapy effect
on the post-operative scar. Indeed, there is a dense spot in stomach
area, on both right and left.
Today, mom's treating doctor prescribed another chemotherapy cycle
for this Friday. And added another medication.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of April 13, 2011.
We received results of my mom's clinical blood test.
The doctor said that it is normal and she can receive Gemzar.
On April 11th she had an injection. We paid 6,000 rubles for the
medications, using the money we saved for apartment rent.
Please help us pay the rent!
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of May 10, 2011.
We are asking for help again. After chemotherapy, mom's condition
became stable. Terrible pain is gone. Her abdomen is less swollen,
but nevertheless, her stomach and the right side feel dense and
mom feels very full after eating.
Her doctor saw her and said it must be a new tumor. He referred
her to a surgeon twice, who has not found anything wrong,
however. Last time, ultrasound study showed ascites and nothing
else. Due to that finding, mom's doctor was asking whether
treatment should continue under the same protocol or a new
scheme should be started. After the first cycle of paclitera +
carboplatin, oncomarker CA-125 fell to 61 (from 197) that
showed effectiveness of this protocol.
Even though my mom started eating better, she is not gaining
weight (previously she was always regaining her weight gradually
after finishing chemotherapy). She has not had any tests after
the second cycle yet - they are planned to be repeated after the
3rd cycle, and mom will go for CBC before starting the next cycle.
Today we agreed with the doctor to continue chemotherapy
under the new protocol.
So we need to buy paclitera again (it costs 28,000 rubles).
We will get Carboplatin for free. The next cycle is scheduled for
May 13th. Please help us with paying for Paclitera and
apartment rent (15,000 rubles).
My mom was unable to work in April and I was not very lucky
with part-time work, so we really need help.
Please support us!
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of July 1, 2011.
My mother's oncomarker is going down, her condition is getting better,
but she is still losing weight and at times she has spasms in the
right side of her back. For some time she had trouble sleeping as
her back was getting tired.
Yesterday my mother had an ultrasound which showed that ascites
is still there and the amount of fluid in the peritoneal cavity
has even increased. But how come the oncomarket is going down then?!
Blood counts are not very good. The doctors themselves cannot
understand what's going on. They want her to have an MRI scan.
That will require money again.
We hope that on July 4 we can see the doctor who will then tell
is what we have to do and when.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of July 4, 2011.
Today we visited a doctor. He insisted on another chemotherapy cycle
under the same protocol (paclitera + carboplatin). We receive carboplatin
for free, but paclitera will again cost 28,000 rubles. Chemotherapy is
scheduled for July 7-8th. Please help my mom undergo it!
The doctor also referred mom for a free CT of lungs and we scheduled
it for July 18th.
Overall, mom feels rather well. She eats very well, but loses weight
and it upsets her. When she starts having unpleasant sensations in her
right side, she eats, and the pains subsides a little.
Before chemotherapy under this protocol, she had dense spots on her
sides and ascites, and now those lumps are softening and shrinking,
and her abdomen is not as distended as well. However, she got something
new in her spine, which makes it uncomfortable and painful to sleep.
So we are currently in an uncertain situation.
We do not know what to do next.
In regards to radiation therapy, mom was told that it cannot be
done while she has ascites, and for ascites to go away,
she needs chemotherapy.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of July 13, 2011.
On July 7th and 8th my mom had chemotherapy and had side effects, as usual.
This time she has numbness in her legs, which has not happened before.
Fortunately, she did not have nausea and can eat well.
We had a small accident. My mom has a denture, and it fell down and
part of it broke off. Now mom cannot chew well. We had to spend on that.
Also we got a call from our landlord who asked us to pay him rent before
Sunday. Please help us - we need 10,000 more rubles.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of July 28, 2011.
Based on MRI results, mom's internal organs look good. However,
there is a question about her colon condition and the doctor
referred her to a proctologist. Colonoscopy is scheduled
for August 2.
The next chemotherapy is scheduled for August 8-9.
Please help us pay for another course of paclitera (30,000 rubles).
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of August 10, 2011.
Colonoscopy showed that all is clear. Afterwards, the doctor recommended
to check liver as well and referred my mom for oncomarker tests (CEA,
CA19-9, CA125). Yesterday and the day before my mom had the 6th cycle
of chemotherapy with paclitera and carboplatin,
and she feels rather well.
We are in a very serious financial situation. Mom plans to return to work
in September and she will not be paid until October. Please help us with
paying apartment rent.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of August 24, 2011.
The first week after chemotherapy, my mom felt rather well,
but at the end of last week she again started to have
strong pains in her liver. In addition, her temperature
rises in the afternoon - for two days it was 38.7C and
then went down to 37.4C. Mom does not feel well.
We were able to talk our landlord into postponing rent
to September 3rd.
Unfortunately, we could not pay for the test for oncomarkers
(1850 rubles) and mom did not have it. We really need
financial support and will be grateful for any help.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of August 30, 2011.
We had three tests today, and should have results tomorrow.
My mom had an ultrasound - the results are good and improvement
was seen. Ascites is now almost half of what she had before.
We went to a doctor who examined my mom and said that she has
inflammation in her kidneys and prescribed dexalgin 25,
canephron and no-spa. He insists on my mom's finishing the 7th
cycle of chemotherapy prior to September 8th (as he will be
on vacation between September 8 and September 28). It means
we again need to find 30,000 rubles for paclitera. Please help!
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of September 4, 2011.
Mom's urine analysis is not bad, according to the doctor.
However, her oncomarkers are elevated: CA-125 is 45.9 (norm is 0-35)
and CEA is 2.61 (norm is 0-2.5). Her temperature went back to
normal and her pain is subsiding gradually, but her right side
still bothers her constantly. Pain only goes away when my
mom takes dexalgin 25 and no-spa. Her doctor insists on
chemotherapy, since oncomarkers are elevated.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of September 14, 2011.
Hello! Chemotherapy on September 6-7 went well. My mom feels rather
well and has usual side effects. She is gradually improving. Thank you
so much for your continuing support!
Respectfully, Natasha, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of October 18, 2011.
1 month and 10 days have passed after chemotherapy. On Friday mother
had the СА-125 tumor marker count done, the result is very good - 12.
On Monday she saw her doctor, who insisted on beginning another course,
despite the fact that last time he said there would be no more chemotherapy.
He also told her to have an ultrasound examination done. The small pelvis
ultrasound (which we had to pay for) showed that everything is clear
and there is no ascite. All the numerous chemotherapy courses have
had an effect on mother's nerves: she's become irritable and touchy
and feels hurt all the time.
Please help us pay for the next chemotherapy course.
That's another 30,000 roubles.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of October 21, 2011.
Mother has been administered a chemotherapy course. Yesterday it was
Paclitera, today it's Carboplatin. Everything went more or less well.
During the past 3 or 4 chemotherapy courses IV drips with
Carboplatin made her heart beat faster and caused asphyxia, but
after some time those symptoms were gone.
The doctor said that next time the dose would be split between
two days, which means chemotherapy will last 3 days. Mother is
feeling fine at the moment. No one knows what she will feel like
tomorrow, normally she feels weak the next day. I'm just
hoping all this will help.
Thank you very much for your help, we wouldn't be
able to cope on our own.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of November 15, 2011.
I have good news. Today my mom had tests for oncomarker and it is normal -
just 7! She feels well overall. We are even scared to talk about it for now.
At times, she has pains in her right side and her feet swell a little.
We plan to see an oncologist on November 17th. Then we will know whether
more chemotherapy is necessary.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of November 20, 2011.
The next chemotherapy cycle was scheduled for December 1-2, so
she can have a bit of time to rest. Next time, the break between the
cycles will be even longer.
The doctor believes that this therapy will reduce the risk of relapse.
And I have to ask you in advance for financial help with Paclitera
(30,000 rubles).
Unfortunately, we have another issue - with apartment rent. The time
is coming up, but we have no one to loan us the money (15,000 rubles)
and we cannot earn this much. Starting this semester I started paying
off my student loans, so the money is even tighter now.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of November 29, 2011.
A new chemotherapy cycle is approaching. Today we start preparing for it,
and this time mom will get dexamethasone intramuscularly, as she cannot
stand pills anymore and gets nauseous.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of December 4, 2011.
Chemotherapy went relatively normally, but my mom had issues with
carboplatin. As soon as infusion was started, her pulse quickened as
during the last times. Mom's heart was beating very fast and she felt anxious.
This time, she also got a red spot on her arm. The infusion had
to be interrupted.
Mom feels OK now. Although she loses appetite at times, she eats well.
As usual, her extremities started hurting, especially her feet.
Mom says that she feels like she is walking on a pillow.
Natalia, Sanzhima's daughter
Update as of January 31, 2012.
My mom is doing great. Recently she had an ultrasound, and results are very good.
She feels well overall, and her legs no longer hurt or swell, except for
occasional bone aches. Her physician recommended another chemotherapy
cycle for February 17th and we have to ask for your help again.
We need Paclitera, as previously, and it costs 30,000 rubles. Please help!
