Hello,
My name is Tamara Burduli. Fate had it that my daughter and I are now on treatment in St. Petersburg. I am a widow and have three children: my oldest is 18 years old and is a student at Electronics College in Vladikavkaz, and I also have 13-year-old twins, Nino and Maria.
In December 2009 Nino and I were hospitalized as she got a tumor on her femur. Before that she was on treatment for osteomyelitis for three months in Vladikavkaz. Only when we came to Petrov Oncology Research Institute in Pesochny near St. Petersburg, Nino was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma.
She already underwent two cycles of chemotherapy, and needs to have four more cycles. Afterwards, she will have bone marrow transplant and radiation therapy.
Now Nino also developed psoriasis. She is treated at a private clinic and the treatment costs are impossibly expensive for me, as I am bringing up three children all by myself.
I am really hopeful for your help, because I cannot cope with this disaster on my own. God bless you!

Respectfully,
Tamara Valikoevna Burduli,
Nino's mother

Medical report

Update as of August 4, 2010. As of now, we have completed three cycles of chemotherapy out of six expected. Nino is not tolerating them well. She has serious side effects: psoriasis and severe stomatitis. Nino is very depressed. She is having nervous breakdowns and is very fatigued. I am very worried about her! We are enormously grateful to our doctors and all our supporters!

Update as of October 30, 2010. Nino is currently at R. Gorbacheva Pediatric Hematology & Transplantation Institute. She will have the 6th chemotherapy cycle followed by autologous bone marrow transplantation. During treatment at Oncology Institute Nino made many good friends and she misses them now. She still has a long treatment ahead: after transplantation, she will have radiation therapy and eight cycles of chemotherapy. We are very grateful to all Nino's doctors for their invaluable work! We are particularly grateful to AdVita fund volunteers and all generous people who responded to our request for help, particularly, Vladimir who donated 10,000 rubles for Nina's treatment!
Thank you very much for your support!

Update as of January 17, 2011. Nino completed radiation therapy and feels OK. She still has eight chemotherapy cycles to go. Nino is in a good mood, because her dream came true: she got a laptop and she can now communicate with her twin sister and brother. We are enormously grateful to everyone for their help!

Update as of February 15, 2011. The last two cycles were very hard for Nino: she had constant nausea and headaches. But she tries to stay strong. In particular, it helps that she has an opportunity to talk to her sister via Internet. Nino has seven more cycles to go.

Update as of March 9, 2011. The next chemotherapy cycle will start on March 16th. Hospitalization is scheduled for March 14. Nino is now at hospice - she is resting and regaining her strength. Nino enjoys drawing classes with a teacher and does not want to return to the hospital, although she understands that it has to be done.

Update as of March 18, 2011. On Monday Nino will be admitted to Oncology Institute to continue her treatment. She feels well now and started math and physics classes with volunteers (they are her favorites). Her mom is asking for help with buying aerosol spray Skin Cap - it really helps Nino. A package costs 1375 rubles and it is good for a cycle of chemotherapy.

Update as of April 12, 2011. Nino is still in rehabilitation center in Lakhta. She is hoping that her blood counts will rise and she will be allowed to rest at home.

Update as of June 7, 2011. On May 26th Nino returned to the clinic for further treatment. She had another cycle of chemotherapy. She is now resting and regaining her strength in Olgino. She feels rather well. The next cycle of chemotherapy will be started on June 15th.

Update as of July 5, 2011. Nino is undergoing scheduled chemotherapy, currently she is in Olgino where she was allowed to rest for a few days. She feels relatively well and even planned to go on a field trip with her friends. However, she has serious pain in her leg and cannot control it well. The doctors said this is due to side effects of chemotherapy. Nino was prescribed symptomatic therapy.

Update as of August 11, 2011. Nino completed 12th cycle of chemotherapy. She is planned to have MRI and isotope study. Hospitalization for the 13th cycle is scheduled for August 15th. Nino is very tired and suffers from headaches.

Update as of August 15, 2011. Based on radioisotope study as of August 11 that was done at Radiology Institute, Nino has no lesions with contrast uptake. Her bones and tissues are cancer free, but she is accumulating fluid near her ankle and knee joints. She started another cycle of chemotherapy.

Update as of August 24, 2011. Nino is not tolerating another cycle of chemotherapy very well. She needs actovegin in ampoules of 5 ml (3 packs).

Update as of October 22, 2011. Nino finished full course of treatment and was discharged in remission. She was recommended to have a consultation at the specialists in Turner Institute, as she still has issues with bending her leg. She is now resting in a rehabilitation center in Olgino where she is also seeing physical therapy specialists. Control tests at Oncology Research Institute are scheduled for mid-November. After the tests, Nino and her mom plan to go home, and return for evaluations every 3 months.

Update as of November 10, 2011. After numerous consultations, it was decided that Nino will undergo rehabilitation at Phtysiology & Pulmonology Institute under Prof. Mushkin care. Nino feels well.

Update as of December 18, 2011. Nino went home and will continue with the rehabilitation course in her home town. The girl's leg is functioning better, she can bend her knee and hip joint. Nino can now walk. The basic disease is in remission. Nino is to come for an examination in the middle of February 2012.
