My name is Larisa Ivanovna Volkova. I am Nikita Alekseev's
grandmother and legal guardian. He is 10 years old. Nikita is a 4th
grade student at school No.3 in Slantsy.
My grandson got sick very suddenly. At first he had serious acute
respiratory virus infection, and a month later he started complaining
of pains in his legs. In December 2009 Nikita was hospitalized and in
January 2010 he was already diagnosed with a terrifying disease:
acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Nikita was immediately transferred to R. Gorbacheva Pediatric
Hematology and Transplantology Institute. There the diagnosis was
confirmed and Nikita started treatment. It will be lengthy (3 years)
and very expensive. I am retired, and Nikita's mother had lost her
parental rights.
Nikita and I are in a difficult situation. I am
always staying with him and cannot even have a part-time job. At this
time, we cannot even afford food. I am asking for your help if
possible. We are very grateful in advance to everyone who responds.
Update as of August 10, 2010.
Nikita is undergoing a final chemotherapy cycle under the protocol.
Afterwards, he will have full examination, and if remission is confirmed,
he will be transferred on maintenance therapy.
Update as of October 6, 2010.
Nikita continues to take maintenance chemotherapy medications (hormones,
vincristine, Methotrexate) and comes for the planned tests. He fells well and
his treatment continues as planned.
Update as of March 28, 2011.
Nikita feels well. Based on February's test results, all is well and
remission is confirmed. Liver-related issues (high ALT) were also resolved.
