My name is Tatiana Zuban. I am asking for help for my only son. I am bringing
him up by myself.
In summer 2009 Maxim graduated from high school and enrolled to Economics
Department of Amur State University as a federally-sponsored student.
On December 8th my son celebrated his 18th birthday, but two days later he got
earache. We went to a doctor and Maxim had a blood test. The doctor's reaction
told us right away that something terrible had happened. During an examination
at Hematology unit, Maxim was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia.
Every evening before going to bed I hoped that tomorrow I will wake up and
everything will be well, and this nightmare was only a dream. But it was not
a dream. Why did it happen to my son? He was growing up without any health
problems. Maxim took swimming and wrestling and loved soccer. He enrolled
easily into college. It seemed his life is just beginning…
Maxim is now at R. Gorbacheva Pediatric Hematology and Transplantology Institute.
He needs therapy with Atgam that costs 400,000 rubles. Please help Maxim get
well!
Update as of April 14, 2010.
AdVita Fund purchased Atgam for Maxim using donations sent to all patients.
Maxim had completed therapy. We are waiting for his response to the
therapy.
Update as of May 19, 2010.
Maxim feels well. He responded to therapy with Atgam and his blood counts
are normalizing.
Update as of June 4, 2010.
Maxim's blood counts are plummeting. He will undergo a second course
of therapy with immunoglobulins.
Update as of June 22, 2010.
On June 14-17, Maxim had a second cycle of therapy with Atgam.
His blood counts are recovering slowly, but he still needs blood
transfusions. As soon as his condition allows, he will be discharged
for outpatient monitoring and the doctors will wait for the effect
from the second injection of the drug. Normally, three courses of
immunoglobulins are administered, and if there is no response,
bone marrow transplantation is planned.
Update as of July 1, 2010.
Maxim feels rather well, but his blood counts are dropping again.
Bone marrow transplantation is being discussed.
Update as of October 22, 2010.
Maxim has a partial response to Atgam therapy. He no longer needs blood
transfusions and takes Cyclosporine. Bone marrow transplantation is not
considered for Maxim at this point.
