Hello!
The Road to Golgotha, for the lack of a better word, for my daughter
Marina began on the verge of her adult life, at the time of so many
prospects, plans and hopes.
In 2006, when my daughter just turned 18, she began to experience strange
pains in the knee, especially at night. Instead of attending lectures at
university she had to visit doctors. There were no results at first.
Surgeons in Petrodvorets where we live claimed that the meniscus was damaged.
Maybe she fell down while roller-skating? No, she didn’t. And the leg kept hurting…
Only at R.Vreden Institute of Traumatology did we hear the terrifying diagnosis:
osteosarcoma of the tibia. At Petrov Oncology Research Institute we were prescribed
chemotherapy, knee joint replacement and another course of chemotherapy. However,
the last chemotherapy sessions had to be cancelled, as Marina’s body could not bear
it any longer.
Of course, my daughter had to give up university studies.
In 2007 Marina enrolled into a college specializing in foreign languages.
The following year was fine. But then a new disaster occurred: a relapse.
My daughter underwent two difficult operations and radiation therapy. After
that everything seemed to be going well. Marina graduated from college with
honors, began working as a school teacher and decided to continue her studies
at Pushkin University.
The new academic year – 2011 – brought another "surprise": a lesion
was located in her lungs! S. Berezin Institute of Biological Systems is willing
to accept Marina for treatment, as she needs to be treated under an international
second-line protocol that is not part of the state quota.
The treatment is very expensive, and I am unable to pay for it. We can only hope
for the help of caring people who will not leave us alone with our troubles.
Please help us!
Update as of October 24, 2011.
Advita fund made a prepayment for 100,000 rubles for Marina's treatment.
She is now undergoing the second cycle of chemotherapy.
Update as of November 13, 2011.
Marina received two cycles of chemotherapy and had a hard time tolerating them.
Her temperature was rising to 38-39 C, and she had additional therapy with
antibiotics. Based on control CT scan, she had insignificant improvement,
and after the consultation with Prof. Levchenko it was decided to refer Marina
for surgical removal of the lesion. Hospitalization is planned for November 21 at
Thoracic Unit of Petrov Oncology Research Institute (under a quota), and histology
results will help decide on new line of chemotherapy. Marina is now recovering.
She still has fever and fatigue.
Update as of November 29, 2011.
Marina tolerated surgery well. A lesion was completely removed.
Marina is now recovering.
Update as of January 8, 2012.
Marina fully recovered after surgery. Based on test results, she is
in remission and feels well. She plans to return to work.
Marina will be monitored at Petrov Oncology Institute.
We are enormously grateful to all Marina's supporters for their help!
