Hello!
My daughter, Valeria Sukhoverkhova, has been sick with acute lymphoblastic leukemia since May 2007. Lera underwent treatment at Leukemia chemotherapy unit of Children's hospital No.1, and then transferred to outpatient monitoring until June 2009.
In June 2009 it was discovered that Lera had a relapse and treatment needs to be repeated, so on June 10, 2009 Lera was again admitted to Leukemia chemotherapy unit of Children's hospital No.1.
As I am a mother of three children (my oldest daughter is 15, and my youngest son is 16 months old), while Lera's treatment and medications are very expensive, I would like to ask for financial support with my daughter's treatment.

Elena Sukhoverkhova

Bill for the donor search in Germany
Medical report

Update as of August 8, 2009. A preliminary search showed that Lera lacks any matching donors at the internatonal registry. Further therapy is under discussion.

Update as of August 23, 2009. Lera is continuing chemotherapy. An active search for matching samples of cord blood in the Russian banks is underway.

Update as of October 1, 2009. Matching cord blood for transplantation for Lera was never found. She also has no matching donors at the International registry. Lera's parents refused the option of haploidentical transplantation. She will continue anti-relapse chemotherapy.

Update as of December 13, 2009. Lera recovered after another anti-relapse chemotherapy round. Her parents decided that Lera needs to go for a course of treatment with Dr. Klehr at Immunology and Cell Biology Clinic, and now Lera and her mom are in Munich.
AdVita fund does not support choice of Immunology & Cell Biology in Munich made by Lera's parents.
We are not raising funds for treatment at that clinic.
We only accept donations for bone marrow donor search at the international registry.
Medical report from Children's hospital No.1

Update as of May 5, 2010. Since November 2009 we have been on treatment for leukemia at the Immunology and Cellular Biology Clinic in Munich. Lera is in a stable condition and there are no blast cells. She feels well, but we need to continue theray to strengthen the results. This would require periodic trips to Munich - once every three months - until the blood counts reach necessary levels. Every trip costs us about 10,000 euros. Please help us with raising money.

Medical report from Munich

Update as of October 6, 2010. Unfortunately, the relapse is suspected, Lera is undergoing tests to confirm her condition.

Update as of October 18, 2010. Based on results of testing at R. Gorbacheva Pediatric Hematology & Transplantology Institute, Lera's relapse was confirmed. Her parents refused treatment in Russia (they were offered chemotherapy followed by haploidentical bone marrow transplantation) and took Lera to Immunology & Cellular Biology Clinic in Munich, despite the fact that Lera had a relapse while on treatment in the clinic.

Update as of March 28, 2011. The last tests showed that Lera had no blast cells in peripheral blood. Now Lera has a baby sister: Ksenia was born on March 27.

Update as of May 25, 2011. Lera's hospitalization at R. Gorbacheva Pediatric Hematology & Transplantology Institute was scheduled for next week.

Update as of June 7, 2011. Lera's parents did not bring her to R. Gorbacheva Institute for hospitalization. It is not clear whether they will continue treatment there or not.

Update as of June 25, 2011. Lera has a follow-up puncture at the Raisa Gorbacheva Institute of Children's Hematology and Transplantology, which revealed 60% of blasts in her bone marrow. Further treatment is being discussed.

Update as of July 17, 2011. Based on cord blood testing, Lera's sister matched as her donor. However, since Lera is in relapse, cord blood transplant will not be effective, and her sister can only become a donor after she weighs at least 10 kg.
After repeated preliminary search, Lera has several potential donors. It was decided to type them first, and if one of them matches, refer Lera for unrelated transplantation. Lera's mom agreed to transplantation from 100% matching donor.
If no one matches, treatment plan will be discussed again. If blasts growth resumes, high-dose chemotherapy and haploidentical transplantation will be considered again.

Update as of August 23, 2011. Control tests showed disease progression and presence of blasts in peripheral blood. Lera was hospitalized at R. Gorbacheva Pediatric Hematology & Transplantation clinic for anti-relapse chemotherapy under BFM regimen. A donor is not yet found.

Update as of September 15, 2011. Lera completed the first anti-relapse cycle and is now in cytopenia. She had high fever for a long time and severe mucositis. Lera receives antibiotics and Cancidas and now feels better.

Update as of September 26, 2011. Lera recovered after a cycle of chemotherapy, but did not respond to it. The blast content is unchanged. Further treatment options are being discussed.

Update as of October 28, 2011. Lera underwent chemotherapy under FLAG regimen. She is now in deep cytopenia and suffers from severe mucositis. As soon as she recovers, she will be evaluated. Haploidentical transplantation from her mom is being considered.

Update as of November 10, 2011. Lera recovered after FLAG cycle. Although she did not achieve remission, blast count decreased to 4%. She has infectious complications and needs an antibiotic (tavanic). Her family is in a difficult situation, as Lera's dad works and can only be with her in the evenings and nights, and her mom takes care of an infant. Lera needs a caregiver for the time her dad is at work. One day of caregiver services experienced with ICU patients costs 1100 rubles. Further treatment is under discussion.

Update as of December 19, 2011. Lera is now at the day patient facility getting maintenance chemotherapy and Vfend. There are no blasts in the peripheral blood. If blast counts in the bone marrow increase Lera will be administered another anti-relapse chemotherapy course, and if her condition remains stable she will be on maintenance therapy until the middle of January and then in January a haploidentical transplantation from her mother will be performed.

Update as of January 12, 2012. On January 11th Lera underwent haploidentical transplantation from her mother.
