In July 2010 my mother Larisa Kondratieva was diagnosed with
acute myeloblastic leukemia. She is now undergoing treatment at R. Gorbacheva
Pediatric Hematology & Transplantology Institute in St. Petersburg.
She needs bone marrow transplantation. Unfortunately, none of her close
relatives matched as a donor, so we will have to look for the donor abroad.
The search for the donor costs 15,000 euros, and delivery of the transplant
to St. Petersburg costs extra 2,500 euros. My mother is 59 years old.
Right after graduating from medical school, she started working as a pediatric
otolaryngologist at Borovichi, a town in Novgorod region.
She is now retired (with pension of 8,000 rubles a month). My father works
at a factory and earns 10,000 - 12,000 rubles a month.
This year he turned 59 too.
I work in St. Petersburg and earn 35,000 rubles a month.
Unfortunately, we cannot afford to raise the required amount urgently
and for this reason we are asking for help with fundraising.
Update as of December 6, 2010.
Larisa is undergoing chemotherapy at Gorbacheva Institute.
A bone marrow donor is not yet found.
Update as of July 20, 2011.
Larisa recovered fully after transplantation and she feels rather well.
She has slight skin GVHD symptoms, which were taken under control.
Larisa is now at home, and control tests are scheduled for the end of July.
Update as of September 11, 2011.
Larisa is feeling fine: the donor transplant is functioning well,
she's in remission, with no GVH reaction or infectious complications.
