Hello,
My name is Maria Evdokimova. My daughter Elizaveta is 6 (she was born
on December 14, 2003).
In 2009, before the New Year, I noticed that my daughter was not
eating well. At times, after she was returning home from preschool,
she vomited. In February 2010 our daughter started complaining more
often of acute pain in her stomach. We went to a local clinic where
Liza was diagnosed with acute respiratory illness. The doctor
prescribed her a special diet and Mezim and Inhalipt. But Liza did
not get better; on the opposite, in a few days she developed fever.
Then we went to a private clinic where the doctors found a tumor in
Liza's right liver lobe.
We were referred for an examination at Stavropol. Liza had MRI and
ultrasound. The doctors insisted that surgery was needed to establish
correct diagnosis. However, we refused the operation and went to
doctors in St. Petersburg for second opinion. At City hospital No.31
Liza was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma.
She now needs to start chemotherapy followed by surgery. We are not
residents of St. Petersburg, so full cost of treatment will be billed
to us. We do not have time to raise funds in Stavropol. According to
the doctors, the more Liza's treatment is delayed, the fewer chances
she has to recover. My daughter and I were hospitalized based on a
guarantee letter from AdVita fund.
Liza's father is staying in Stavropol with our eldest son. My husband
and I will do everything we can to save our daughter. But some things
we cannot control. Please give us a chance, help Liza win over this
terrible disease!
Respectfully,
Evdokimov family

Update as of August 11, 2010.
Lisa completed the first stage of treatment. She now needs to undergo
surgery to remove lesions. Next week she is expected for a consultation
with a surgeon in Moscow. If they cannot operate (surgery will be highly
complex), she will need to travel to the UK for the operation, to the
clinic where her current treatment protocol was developed.
The surgery in the UK is estimated to cost 30,000 euros.
Update as of September 8, 2010.
Lisa underwent 7-hour long surgery to remove lesions in her liver and lungs. The surgery was successful
and the tumor was removed. Lisa is now recovering. Afterwards, she will need to return to
Municipal hospital No.31 to complete chemotherapy. She has to pay for all the treatment at the
hospital No.31, as Lisa is not St. Petersburg's resident.
Update as of October 24, 2010.
At the end of September Liza was administered the first of the planned
chemotherapy courses and had cytopenia for a long time. After the blood
counts had recovered in three weeks the new treatment course began.
Histology results are to arrive from Moscow soon, and then the doctors
will make the final decision on the protocol. Liza is now feeling ok
and is looking forward to classes with volunteer teachers.
She loves to play and asks me to find her a teacher - she really wants to
learn to read and write properly!
