Hello,
Our little daughter Lerochka is just 3 months old. About a month ago
we noticed a small swelling on her neck. We also found it strange that
her tummy looked like as if it was swollen. During routine physical
checkup at polyclinic our pediatrician assured us that "it was just a
lymph node inflammation" and it does not require any special treatment.
As for swollen tummy we were told there was nothing to worry about either
as bloating is frequent in infants. "Take Espumisan", - said our doctor.
But Espumisan did not help and her tummy continued to grow bigger.
We got really worried and started seeking for help at Kirovskaya Regional
Hospital where after numerous tests Lera was diagnosed with neuroblastoma,
a malignant tumor. An ambulance immediately delivered our little girl to 31
Municipal Hospital of St.Petersburg from Kirovsk, our home town.
She is now undergoing chemotherapy. As our residential address is not in
St. Petersburg, our insurance does not cover the costs of expensive high
technology treatment but only a number of routine analyses and hospital
admission. Our Regional Health Department may agree to allocate any funds
to cover our daughter's treatment at municipal hospital. Since the issue
with treatment funding was not resovled yet, it was vital to start
chemotherapy as soon as possible and we were admitted to Hospital under
condition that AdVita fund would issue a Letter of Guarantee for payment.
Thank God, we are in a hospital now and treatment has already started. But
nobody knows how much it will cost. We were told it will require as much as
hundreds of thousands of rubles.
My wife and I will do anything to raise money for Lerochka's treatment, but
we are not able to do it alone.
We believe there are people who would help our daughter to fight the disease
and grow up healthy.
Our family would highly appreciate any support!
Update as of December 25, 2011.
A second cycle of chemotherapy was finished. Lera tolerated it worse than
the first one. Her blood counts dropped, and her platelet count is low.
But the tumor lesion in Lera's liver shrank to 1.5 cm, based on control
ultrasound. If her blood counts normalize soon, Lera and her mom will
be allowed to go home for a few days to rest before the next cycle.
Update as of January 15, 2012.
Lerochka rested at home until January 8th. She then returned to the
hospital and resumed chemotherapy. She feels great and her tummy is
almost not enlarged. Lera is learning to crawl and tries very hard.
She is making progress.
Update as of January 18, 2012.
AdVita received an invoice for Lera's treatment for 264504.19 roubles.
Update as of January 24, 2012.
Lera completed the 3rd cycle of chemotherapy and her blood counts plummeted.
She receives hypoallergenic formula HAH. Lera's mom is asking for
help with buying diapers. Although unit has diapers, Lera can only wear size 3.
Update as of February 2, 2012.
Lera's parents received registration in St. Petersburg and Lera is now
treated at City Hospital No.31 under a quota. The bill for previous treatment
for 264,504 rubles was paid using donations sent to Lera's account and
to all patients. We are enormously grateful to everyone!
Lera's mom is also thankful to all those who is helping them with
diapers and food. Lera is now at home, on a break from chemotherapy until
February 8th. She feels well and is developing according to her age:
makes sounds, turns over and will soon get her first teeth.
Update as of February 20, 2012.
Lerochka turned 6 months old. She is now at the hospital where she is coming out
of cytopenia. The 4th cycle of chemotherapy is planned. She feels rather well.
Update as of March 11, 2012.
Unfortunately, information regarding registration in St. Petersburg and treatment
under a quota was not confirmed. Lera is still billed for her treatment at Municipal
hospital No.31. Her parents received a new bill for 106,220 rubles.
Update as of March 15, 2012.
Lerochka finished the 4th cycle. She is now undergoing tests, which
will be followed by the 5th cycle. The little girl is developing
according to age (she had turned 7 months), and is learning
to sit without support.
Update as of March 30, 2012.
Lera recovered after the 4th cycle of chemotherapy.
After examination, the 5th cycle is planned.
She feels well, is happy and active.
Update as of April 10, 2012.
