Hello!
My name is Irina Lukoyanova. I kindly ask you to help me with the treatment
of my son Kirill. He is 12 and is a student of the 5th grade. My son was born
with numerous congenital abnormalities: congenital hypoplasia of the 1st finger
of the right hand with a deficient grasping function, bilateral congenital
conductive hearing loss, right-sided cryptorchidism, lumbar dystopia of the
left kidney combined with its hypoplasia, incomplete right kidney rotation, etc.
Up until the 4th grade those congenital abnormalities did not prevent Kirill from
going to a middle school in the town of Kozlovka of the Chuvash Republic where
he did very well. My son made a point of going to all physical training classes
as we both hoped it would improve his physical development. He was enrolled in a
soccer club for children, the same one which my younger son Pavel was going to,
and Pavel is a winner of the second prize at the Chuvash Republic Soccer
Championship among children.
During the year 2007 Kirill was having spontaneous nosebleeds (which could last
as long as 40 minutes), approximately 2-4 times a month. All mental and physical
activities made him very tired in no time. One day he had a nosebleed at night,
and I called the ambulance. The doctor examined him and advised us to have a
full blood count. On November 27, 2007 my son had a complete examination which
revealed blood changes.
When Kirill went to the 4th grade (that is, in September 2008) his condition
got a lot worse. He had a weakness and fatigue which he could not bear any
more. We were admitted to a regional hospital and then transferred to a
republican hospital. A clinical test revealed an anemia (his hemoglobin
count was 77). Further on Kirill was admitted to the Raisa Gorbacheva
Institute of Children's Hematology and Transplantology so that the diagnosis
could be specified and the treatment tactics defined. Given Kirill's numerous
abnormalities he was diagnosed with a severe form of aplastic anemia, and the
doctors suspected Fanconi's anemia.
My son was examined by Professor B.V. Afanasiev who thought it reasonable to
activate the search for donors in the International registry and cord blood
banks. Unfortunately according to the matching results Kirill's brother Pavel
could not be his donor. The search for a non-relative compatible donor in the
International registry requires 15,000 euros. A bone marrow transplantation
is the only chance to save my son's life. We faced a problem we cannot solve
on our own!
Thank you all very much. We hope for your compassion and help!
