Hello,
My son Nikolai was born in 1990. When Kolya was 3, he was diagnosed with acute
lymphoblastic leukemia with CNS involvement, high risk. For a year he was treated
under BFM-90 protocol. Then he underwent radiation therapy. My son was given
disability status. Ten years later it was lifted because he was in remission
in regards to his primary diagnosis. However, after long-term therapy of
leukemia and numerous blood transfusions, Kolya was diagnosed with hepatitis B
in 1995, and later – with hepatitis C. During all this time my son was on antiviral
drugs, but he never achieved good results. Recently Kolya started complaining of
severe pain in abdomen, fatigue and dizziness. He had blood tests and fibroscan
of his liver. The tests showed that he had no improvement. Moreover, Kolya got
a new diagnosis – liver fibrosis, stage I-II. He needs therapy with Baraclude.
We went to a local infectious diseases specialist who referred us to AIDS Center.
There we were told that they cannot help us because Kolya is no longer considered
disabled. The Health Administration gave us similar response.
Kolya needs to take 1 mg of this drug a day for a year. This medication costs 40,000 rubles
a month. We cannot afford this drug on our own. Please help us buy Baraclude
for Kolya.
Update as of June 27, 2010.
Thanks to help from Zhanna, Sergei and an anonymous supporter,
Nikolai was provided with Baraclude for almost a year. He feels well.
We are enormously grateful to everyone who has helped!
Update as of August 18, 2010.
For the first time during the time he has been sick hepatitis test
results are negative! In order to consolidate the results Kolya will
have to take Baraclude for another few months but the amount acquired
by our donators should be enough.
Kolya and his mother say thank you to all donators who
helped them overcome hepatitis.
