Hello!
My daughter Ivetta is 18 months old. She has a rare and very dangerous disease:
Diamond-Blackfan aplastic anemia. Her bone marrow is not making erythrocytes.
The disease appeared when Ivetta was 3 months old. She was hospitalized in
intensive care unit with hemoglobin count of 15. Since then she needed constant
blood transfusions. Every 2-3 weeks we come to St. Petersburg for transfusion.
However, long-term transfusions are also dangerous because iron levels increase in blood.
The doctors said that my daughter can only be saved by bone marrow
transplantation from an unrelated donor. At times, I can’t even afford a
ticket to St. Petersburg, so 17,500 euros are completely
out of reach for us! I am no longer paid for maternity leave and my husband
was incarcerated. My only income is 400 rubles a month of child allowance.
Please help me save Ivetta!
Update as of February 24, 2011.
We are sincerely grateful to Russian Help Fund for agreeing to pay for donor's bone
marrow harvesting (10,000 euros). Therefore, we now urgently need to raise 5,000 euros
to pay for the donor search.
Update as of June 25, 2011.
Ivetta is at home feeling fine, her blood counts have been
normal for a long time now so the girl does not need blood transfusions.
The donor has not been found yet.
Update as of October 28, 2011.
Ivetta came in for control tests. Her blood counts are normal.
A potential donor was found, but only partially matching.
Since Ivetta feels very well, it was decided to gradually
reduce hormonal doses and monitor her condition. If relapse does
not occur after cancellation of hormonal therapy, a donor
will be reserved and transplantation will not be performed for now.
However, if blast growth resumes, the donor will be activated.
