Hello,
My name is Elena Sheetik. I am Igor Sheetik's wife. He is 48 years old.
We live in St. Petersburg. In September 2009 Igor received a terrifying
diagnosis: myelodysplastic syndrome. Since that time his life has been
dependant on blood transfusions.
In December 2009 Igor started treatment at chemotherapy unit of Almazov
Federal Center. At the clinic he underwent three cycles of therapy with
Dacogen. Then it was replaced by Gleevec. However, the therapy was not
effective. Igor's disease is also complicated by increasing
bone marrow fibrosis.
As a result, we were facing the only option left: bone marrow
transplantation. After typing of Igor's brother, it turned out that
he couldn’t be a donor. Therefore, Igor will need to undergo
unrelated bone marrow transplantation and a donor will have to
be sought at the international registry. The procedure itself
will be paid for my federal budget (under a quota), but the search
for the donor at the registry in Germany requires 15,000 euros,
and additional 2,500 euros are needed for delivery of
transplant to St. Petersburg.
Our family does not have this much money. For a year now Igor has only
been receiving a disability pension, and I was the only breadwinner.
But recently I lost my job.
I am asking everyone who has the opportunity to help to donate some
money to save my husband's life. Thank you in advance for responding
to my request and helping Igor get well.
