Another Igor's photo

Hello!
My name is Yana. In spring 2007, my husband Igor (he is 30) got seriously sick. He was diagnosed with atypical chronic myeloid leukemia. For a long time, he received treatment in several hospitals in Moscow, but without result. Since February 2009 he has been on treatment at R. Gorbacheva Institute of Pediatric Hematology and Transplantology at State Medical University in St. Petersburg.
He needs allogeneic unrelated bone marrow transplantation. The search for an unrelated donor costs 15,000 euros, and delivery of transplant costs another 2,500 euros. As of now, we made a payment of 5,000 euros. However, we do not know where to find the rest of the money, and this is why we are asking for help. We are really hopeful that someone will feel sympathetic to our cause and respond to our request.
Thank you in advance.

Bill for the donor search in Germany

Update as of March 20, 2009 A donor for Igor was found. We urgently need to raise money for collection of transplant (10,000 euros) and delivery of transplant (2,500 euros). Igor just underwent surgery to remove his spleen and he is in recovery. Transplantation is planned to take place in a month or month and a half.

Update as of March 30, 2009 Igor's transplantation is scheduled for April 28-29. We need to pay for the donor search and delivery of transplant by April 17th. Please help us!

Update as of April 14, 2009. Due to some technical reasons the transplantation was postponed until May 13. The money needed for the repayment of the debt to the registry has not been raised. Igor needs seven bottles of Fludara for the next chemotherapy course, which cost a total of 63,000 roubles.
Medical conclusion

Update as of May 6, 2009. We are sincerely grateful to Captain Nemo for paying off our debt to Morsch registry for activation of the donor!

Update as of May 12, 2009. On April 29th Igor underwent bone marrow transplantation. The transplant is now engrafting. Igor had developed mucositis.

Update as of June 3, 2009. Igor fully recovered after transplantation and was discharged for outpatient monitoring. He feels relatively well. Igor's family needs financial support, as his parents are retired, and only his wife currently works. The family is catastrophically short on money for treatment and living expenses. Igor's parents loaned 5,000 euros for the first installment to the registry, and they need to repay the debt.

Update as of June 22, 2009. During the weekend, Igor returned home to Moscow. He is breathing fresh air and recovering in his dacha.
I would like to express my gratitude to AdVita fund for what is happening with us now. Aside from serious financial help from the fund, you truly supported us and our relatives with your empathy and care, which at times are the most important things.
With our best wishes, gratitude, and of course, respect.
Yana, Igor's wife

Update as of July 1, 2009. Igor returned to St. Petersburg for planned checkup. If all the test results are normal, Igor will be allowed to stay at home for two months. He feels well.

Update as of July 23, 2009. Igor completed planned checkup. He is doing well. The next checkup is in two months.

Update as of October 2, 2009. Igor was examined in August. Everything is good and he feels well. The next planned testing is on October 5th.

Update as of December 25, 2011. Unfortunately, Igor had a relapse. He is now undergoing anti-relapse chemotherapy cycle at Gorbacheva Institute. Repeat transplantation of bone marrow is preliminarily scheduled for January 19th. We are waiting for the bill from the registry to cover another harvesting of bone marrow from the same donor. Urgent help is needed to cover transplant delivery costs.

Update as of December 28, 2011. Hello! After bone marrow transplantation I began living a normal healthy life. I made plans for the future and was spending more time with family and friends. My wife and I even got a dog. And then I learned that I had a relapse and need a second bone marrow transplantation.
Due to that I am asking for your help again. I hope that this time too people will show their support and respond to my request for help.
Respectfully, Igor

Update as of January 8, 2012. Pre-transplantation chemotherapy had to be postponed, as Igor got ulcer and had a serious internal bleeding, which was controlled. He is now in a stable condition and was scheduled for complete evaluation. The results of it will be used to discuss possibility of chemotherapy and a new date for transplantation.
There is a chance that transplantation may be performed as previously planned. A donor was found urgently, on a loan, under financial guarantee from AdVita fund, and we urgently need to pay 14,500 euros to the registry.

Update as of January 26, 2012. Igor is in the 4th day post-transplant, which took place on schedule. He still owes the registry for the new donor search.

Update as of February 22, 2012. Igor started recovering post-transplant. He is exiting cytopenia. Igor had signs of veno-occlusive liver disease that were controlled. He has no GVHD symptoms, but was diagnosed with lung aspergillosis and was prescribed Vfend.

Update as of April 17, 2012. Unfortunately, Igor is in relapse resistant to chemotherapy. Igor was discharged home for palliation.
