Hello!
my son Igor is 23 years old. After completing military duty he started working
for police. Three years ago, during routine employment medical check, Igor
complained about pain in inguinal area and was referred to a district clinic.
We live in Timoshevsk town in Krasnodarsky region. At district clinic, he was
assured that his condition was normal and there was nothing to worry about.
But medical examination performed at Krasnodar revealed that Igor had a
testicular cancer.
In May 2010 Igor underwent surgery and started a cycle of chemotherapy. But a
checkup performed after the 10th cycle revealed that disease was progressing.
Two more cycles of chemotherapy were administered, but were ineffective. Doctors
in Krasnodar ran out of all possible treatment options. We found information about
Berezin Diagnostic Treatment Center of the International Institute of Biological
Systems on the internet and on 14th of November we arrived to St. Petersburg.
Igor was hospitalized on the day of arrival and chemotherapy was started. Even
the 1st cycle proved to be highly effective as my son's condition improved
considerably: pain was gone, he started feeling and moving much better, and he
started believing that he could overcome the disease! Doctors say if he continues
to be responsive to treatment and tumor size will diminish enough to make surgery
possible, then Gamma Knife surgery can be performed at Berezin Center. For the first
time we saw a ray of hope as there are no more options to treat Igor's condition.
But we have to cover the treatment costs ourselves, and every cycle of chemotherapy
amounts to around 100,000 roubles, plus costs of Gamma Knife radio surgery. This is
a very big amount of money for our family, it is beyond our financial capacity to
cover the cost of complete course of treatment. We are very grateful to AdVita fund
that agreed to issue a Letter of Guarantee and to pay the bill for the first cycle
of chemotherapy. But fund's means are limited too, so I hope that donations made by
our supporters will keep my son’s hope to be cured alive and help us pay for treatment.
Igor believes people to be considerate and kind. He truly hopes that there are
compassionate people who will not leave him alone in this battle.
Please help my son survive!
Oleg Karev, Igor's father

Update as of December 14, 2011.
Igor completed a cycle of chemotherapy, and is now undergoing one more.
Almost immediately after starting chemotherapy, he felt much better and
had more energy. Based on test results, he has significant improvement.
According to the treatment plan, after four cycles of chemotherapy, further
treatment strategy will be discussed: radiosurgery with CyberKnife, surgery,
or bone marrow transplantation.
Please note that Igor is being treated in St. Petersburg as a self-pay
patient. Please help Igor with paying for his treatment.
Update as of December 25, 2011.
The tumor is responding well to chemotherapy, but Igor's blood counts
plummeted and he was hospitalized at St. Petersburg's Clinical hospital
for blood transfusions (the Berezin Center does not yet has a license for
blood transfusions).
Update as of December 27, 2011.
Igor was already discharged from the Clinical hospital of Russian
Science Academy and he flew with his father to Krasnodar for the holidays.
His hemoglobin count is up, and although platelets are still somewhat low,
he feels better with every day. On January 9th Igor is expected to
be back at Berezin Center for another cycle of chemotherapy.
Update as of January 13, 2012.
Igor returned to St. Petersburg and continued his treatment at Berezin Institute.
He is undergoing the 3rd cycle of chemotherapy. If his blood counts allow,
he will start the 4th cycle right after.
Igor feels well and his temperature is normal.
Update as of February 15, 2012.
Igor completed the 4th cycle of chemotherapy and was temporarily
transferred from the Diagnostic Center to the Russian Academy of
Sciences hospital that has blood transfusion unit. Some of the tests
will have to be done at the Diagnostic Center, and a trip by
taxi there costs 600 rubles. Igor's family has no means even to afford food.
We are asking for urgent support. Donations can be sent to Igor's card.
Upon his recovery after the 4th cycle, high-dose chemotherapy followed by
autologous bone marrow transplantation at Petrov Oncology Institute are planned.
Update as of March 12, 2012.
Igor was hospitalized at Petrov Oncology Institute for additional
diagnostics and preparation for autologous transplant. This stage will
last about 2 weeks.
Oleg, Igor's father, was referred by the doctors to the dentist
at their hometown of Krasnodar (otherwise, he could be the source of
infection after the transplantation), and he will return to
St. Petersburg on March 24th. Until then Igor will be by himself.
Update as of April 11, 2012.
Igor began progressing, and autologous transplantation was postponed.
He is now at home where he receives therapy with endoxan and bleomycin.
Decision regarding further treatment has not been made yet.
Update as of May 6, 2012.
Igor is recovering after the chemotherapy course with Endoxan and Bleomycin.
For the next chemo Lastet is planned to be used. The groin lump has grown
a bit bigger and courses some pains. The possibility of an autologous
transplantation is still under question.
