Hello,
I am the mother of Ivan Buitov. My son is 21 years old. I's
hard to ask for help for a grown up son but you never know what
life has in store for all of us.
Ivan is a very outgoing young man, full of positive energy. He
was always good at school and enjoyed studying - it came easy to
him. He was enthusiastic about academic competitions and was always
at a core of entertainment activities at school or at a community
center. Ivan played basketball at school and soccer for community
teams. He graduated from school with honors and was accepted to a
faculty of Military Telecommunication Networks at the Bonch-Bruevich
St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications. His friends
love him a lot and they are always ready to lend him a hand and he
in turn is always willing to help his friends. It seemed like everything
was coming together nicely.
But Ivan's life took a tragic turn and in October 2009 he fell sick.
Our community hospital doctors were unable to establish a diagnosis
for 6 months. Only in March 2010 he was diagnosed with
acute lymphoblastic leukemia. But we stayed very positive and believed
it was curable.
Ivan underwent 8 cycles of chemotherapy and radiation treatment was
prescribed. But Ivan refused to go through a radiation treatment as by
that time he was in sustained remission and was feeling well. Ivan was
discharged from the hospital and resumed his studies at the University.
It's hard to believe how easily treated pneumonia would trigger a relapse
of leukemia. Ivan was again admitted to Leningradsky Regional Clinical
Hospital and is going through intensive chemotherapy. The only option he
has now is a Bone Marrow Transplant. As his sister Masha is not a good
match to be his donor, we need to initiate an unrelated donor search at
the International Bone Marrow Donor Registry. We need to pay 15,000 euros
for donor search and another 2500 euros for transplant delivery. As of today
we have raised 600,000 rubles thanks to donations made by sponsors and our
community. This amount is enough to cover donor search costs. An outstanding
amount for transplant delivery is still to be raised. There's one more
complication. Ivan was found to have a rare fungal infection that can be
controlled only by Noxafil medication. Cost of an ampoule of Noxafil is 57,000 rubles.
Ivan needs 6 ampoules per month, which amounts to 342,000 rubles. Our family is
unable to afford it. My husband is a driver at Podporoxhskoye LLC and I am a
nurse at a hospital. We ask for help with raising funds for our son's treatment.
Please help us to save his life!
Thank you in advance.
Update as of December 15, 2011.
Ivan completed chemotherapy and started maintenance regimen: 5-day
chemotherapy with 3-week break. He is now at the Regional hospital where
he is recovering after the last cycle. He is in remission, but still
needs Noxafil. A donor was not found yet. Ivan feels rather well.
Update as of February 11, 2012.
Ivan's transplantation was scheduled for March 14.
Update as of April 19, 2012.
Ivan had the transplantation performed as planned. There are signs
of a skin GVH reaction which is under control thanks to hormones
therapy. Ivan has been discharged to be monitored at the Leningrad
Regional Clinical Hospital.
