Hello,
My name is Alena Egorova. I have two children. One of them is 3
years old, and another is 18 months old. My oldest son Egor was born
on March 2, 2007. In August 2009 he started feeling unwell. At
first, he was dizzy and had headaches, and then he started having
fatigue, vomiting and was walking unsteady. After medical
examination, it turned out that he had a tumor in posterior cranial
fossa. Egor was diagnosed with occlusive hydrocephalus.
On November 2, 2009 Egor had surgery, trepanation and resection to
remove the tumor. Histology testing of the tissue showed that it is
anaplastic ependymoma. We are now being monitored by an oncologist at
Petrov Oncology Research Institute. My son underwent
polychemotherapy. I am a single mother, and I cannot work now due to
Egor's illness. He constantly needs medications, and it is very
difficult for us financially. My children and I will be very grateful
for any help.
Update as of July 1, 2010.
Egor is now at home. Because of a viral infection, chemotherapy cannot be started.
As soon as infection is taken under control, Egor will need to undergo two more
chemotherapy courses with four cycles in each. The family needs help with paying
for current medications and food.
Please send your donations to Egor's mother's savings account, as she is currently
not able to leave Kolpino to receive help from our fund in St. Petersburg.
Update as of July 8, 2010.
Egor was discharged home on May 25th. We completed the first cycle of therapy.
Three more cycles like this one are planned. At home, Egor's blood counts
were plummeting several times. He was frequently sick, had colds, and needed
antibiotics. Egor is now getting better and he will be hospitalized again
soon to start another chemotherapy cycle.
After surgery in November 2009 to remove tumor, Egor started having neurologic
issues: paralysis of his left side, and paralysis of a facial nerve. It
means he could not walk, lie down or even sit by himself. After three courses
of massage and gymnastics, he can walk and move his left hand. But he
still has facial nerve paralysis.
We really need to go for massage, but the next course will cost 7,000 rubles.
We do not have money to pay for it because I cannot work at this time.

Update as of August 19, 2010.
Egor was admitted to Oncology Research Institute on July 13th.
He completed standard tests: blood tests, ECG, ultrasound and MRI.
On July 19th he started the 5th cycle of chemotherapy.
He started having problems with his veins right away. His subclavicular
catheter was bleeding and he had fever. To continue chemotherapy,
Egor had to have peripheral catheters installed. His blood counts
plummeted and he developed stomatitis. Egor's lymph nodes enlarged
and he received antibiotics. He is planned to undergo two more cycles
of chemotherapy. I am grateful to everyone for their
financial support.

Update as of October 21, 2010.
On August 24th Egor was discharged from Petrov Oncology Research
Institute to go home and recover from a cold. On September 30th Egor
and I were admitted to the hospital for further treatment. Egor underwent
6th chemotherapy cycle. On October 11th he had a consultation with a neurosurgeon.
It was decided that Egor needs surgery to remove a recurrence of the tumor in posterior
cranial fossa. On October 13th Egor was discharged. He now suffers from high blood
pressure, headaches, stomatitis and anorexia. After treatment is over, he is planned
to undergo surgery at Children's hospital No.5. We are very grateful to everyone for their help.

Update as of February 1, 2011.
In November, Egor was admitted for treatment to Children's Clinical
hospital No.5. He underwent surgery to remove a tumor. Post-operative
period was difficult. At the end of December, he was allowed to go home.
On January 11 ambulance took him back to the hospital with suspected
bronchitis (difficulty breathing). The tests showed that it was caused
by progression of disease.
Egor is now in intensive care in a stable but serious condition.
We need money to replace the old shunt. It will cost approximately
49,950 rubles. Thank you very much for your help.
