Hello!
My friends have a big problem. Their daughter is seriously ill. She has a rare type of liver cancer. Her name is
Dasha Savelieva, she is 11 years old. At first, she was treated at the hematological clinic in Irkutsk. Unfortunately,
our doctors could not help her. They never had a patient with such diagnosis and they did not really know how
to treat her. They told Dasha's parents that she can only be helped by German doctors. Dasha's parents needed
to raise 1 million rubles for that.
Thanks to God and all the good people, we raised the money, but our town is small and people are not wealthy.
Dasha and her mom are now on treatment at the clinical hospital in Dortmund, Germany. We now have hope, because
the treatment had positive effect and the doctors decided to operate Dasha. It means that we can hope for her survival.
We would like to ask everyone for help. Please help us raise the money for the operation, which is scheduled for
September 6th. Also, the living expenses in Germany for Irina (Dasha's mom) and Dasha during and after the operation
will be significant.
The operation itself will cost close to another million rubles. As soon as we receive a bill from the hospital, we will post it on this website.
Update as of August 16, 2007.
On August 17th, Dasha and her mom will return home to raise the money for the operation. Their only option to find the
money is to sell their apartment. However, the sale may take a long time. Also, the family has two children, and they
will have no home to go back to after the operation.
Please, help Dasha's family raise the money they need!
Natalia Rehlova.
Update as of August 19, 2007.
We expect to receive the hospital bill for
Dasha's operation by August 21st or 22nd. We will publish it as soon as we
receive it. Based on preliminary information, there is still 13,000 euros
left from the amount Dasha's parents transferred to clinic for testing.
However, this money is in the hands of the intermediary firm MedHaus.
As soon as Dasha is billed for the operation, we will be able to calculate
how much money we need to raise.
Update as of September 9, 2007.
As of today the situation is as follows. When Dasha's parents were urgently searching
for a clinic that would take Dasha for operation, Alexander Ivanov, a representative
of an intermediary firm, MedHaus, offered their services. Dasha was hospitalized
for examination and chemotherapy at Pediatric Clinical Center in Dortmund.
The examination and chemotherapy were completed. The operation was scheduled for
September 6th and then postponed until September 18th because the clinic
lacked a specialist and had invited a professor from one of the university clinics.
Unfortunately, Dasha's parents have received neither medical expense bill, nor the
upcoming operation bill from the clinic and MedHaus. Currently, they are requesting
the bill from the clinic in Dortmund and are considering hospitalizing Dasha at
another clinic if they don't get a detail of their account from the clinic in
Dortmund. Dasha still needs an urgent operation due to hepatocellular carcinoma
as well as financial help with paying for the operation.
Update as of September 12, 2007.
The 13,450 euros in cash that Dasha's
parents gave to MedHaus in August have not yet been transferred to the
Dortmund clinic bank account.
Update as of September 14, 2007.
We received a cost estimate for proposed
therapy and a bill for completed treatment from the clinic (we will publish
it soon on our web site). We would like to thank the commercial department
of the clinic for clarifying the situation and offering support to Dasha's
mom.
The commercial director of the clinic, Ms. Greive (Geschaeftsleiterin Frau
Greive) and the medical director of pediatric clinic Mr. Schneider
(Klinikdirektor Herr Schneider) promised to personally oversee the situation
with Dasha. AdVita fund will continue to monitor all the medical and
administrative activity through its representatives in Germany. Dasha will
be provided with transfers when needed, free translation service during her
treatment and free lodging in case she becomes an outpatient.
All further negotiations with the clinic will be performed by the
translators working with our fund who will take care of Dasha and her mom
while they are in Germany, based on Dasha's parents request.
Update as of September 15, 2007.
Dasha came in Dortmund! Here are Dasha's photos.
Even though Dasha and her mom came to the clinic on Friday evening, all the administrative issues were resolved very quickly. The cash that Dasha's
mom brought with her was immediately added to Dasha's patient account. The clinic's accountant stayed after her working hours to wait for Dasha's
arrival. Dasha and her mom already had consultations with surgeons and anesthesiologists regarding upcoming operation.
Update as of September 16, 2007.
AdVita fund would like to thank Elena, Torsten, Ralf, Anya and Dirk, volunteers of Siberian-German pediatric help,
for their help with organizing Dasha's stay in Dortmund. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers and Air Berlin employees, Dasha and Irina
received wonderful treatment during their plane ride and at the airport.
The volunteers met Dasha and gave her presents, took her and her mom to the hospital and helped Irina during her discussion with the doctors
regarding the upcoming operation.
We would also like to thank Leonid Tsypin, priest of Russian Orthodox community in Dortmund, and Dr. Abramov, church warden, for their
promise to help Dasha and Irina with free translation service, moral support and lodging.
Update as of September 17, 2007.
Dasha's operation s scheduled for tomorrow!
At 7 am she will be taken to the anesthesiologist, and the operation will start at 8 am. Our translator Lena will come in the morning to
provide Dasha's mom with emotional support and translation of post-operation discussion with the doctors.
Update as of September 18, 2007.
The operation took place today. Dasha was taken to anesthesiologists around 7 am, and at 13:30 her mom was already able to see her.
The operation was successful and the tumor was removed completely. We are now waiting for the histology testing results. Dasha will stay at
intensive care unit for several days, while her mom will be at the boarding house within the clinic.
Update as of October 11, 2007.
Dasha completed her treatment in Dortmund and returned home to Zheleznogorsk. She will receive planned examinations in
her hometown. We are sincerely grateful to Vika Reznikova for help with the meetings with the clinic and MedHaus, as a result
of which our patient received back her 7,000 euros. We would also like to thank all the volunteers who have been helping
Dasha in Dortmund.
