Hello!
On January 12, 1999 I gave birth to my son Dima. He was born on the eve of my birthday
and became the dearest birthday present in my life. Unfortunately, our carefree existence
was soon over.
In March 2002 Dima was undergoing medical examination for the nursery school. The surgeon
found a tumor in the abdominal area and sent us to the hospital. For several months the
doctors couldn’t determine a diagnosis. In June it became clear that Dima has chronic
myeloid leukemia without Ph-chromosome, a very rare disease among children.
Dima’s father got overwhelmed by the forthcoming difficulties. He packed his belongings
and transferred to me the responsibility for solving all the issues related to our son’s
treatment and financial support.
For my son, February 2004 began with a stay at intensive care. Then the doctors were
looking for the optimal treatment, next came one more visit to intensive care, a search
for blood donors and a lot more. As a result the doctors picked a medicine that keeps my
son in a good condition (Roferon). However, we cannot receive it for free, so we always
have to look for money for medications. Since it is the only suitable medicine, Dima will
have to take it till the complete recovery. At present there are three injections per week,
each of them costs 1,095 rubles.
In April 2006 it became clear that bone marrow transplantation is the only way to save my
son’s life. Unfortunately, none of his relatives matched as a donor. After the typing
procedure, international registry showed 15 potential donors.
After I informed my employer that I will need to take a leave for 2 months for my son’s
operation I was fired. All our income consists now of Dima’s disability pension
(3,500 rubles per month) and alimony (4,000 rubles). Meanwhile, we pay 1,500 rubles per
month for utilities and try to buy proper nutrition my son needs. We are also trying
to save money for transplantation (15,000 euro is needed for the donor search, additional
2,500 euro for delivery of material to Russia, and we also need money for rehabilitation
period). This is a huge amount for me and I will not be able to raise it without your help.
Dima is now in a good condition for transplantation, which gives him a very good chance
for life.
Please help me save my son!
