Dima's other photos

Hello!
On January 12, 1999 I gave birth to my son Dima. He was born on the eve of my birthday and became the dearest birthday present in my life. Unfortunately, our carefree existence was soon over.
In March 2002 Dima was undergoing medical examination for the nursery school. The surgeon found a tumor in the abdominal area and sent us to the hospital. For several months the doctors couldn’t determine a diagnosis. In June it became clear that Dima has chronic myeloid leukemia without Ph-chromosome, a very rare disease among children.
Dima’s father got overwhelmed by the forthcoming difficulties. He packed his belongings and transferred to me the responsibility for solving all the issues related to our son’s treatment and financial support.
For my son, February 2004 began with a stay at intensive care. Then the doctors were looking for the optimal treatment, next came one more visit to intensive care, a search for blood donors and a lot more. As a result the doctors picked a medicine that keeps my son in a good condition (Roferon). However, we cannot receive it for free, so we always have to look for money for medications. Since it is the only suitable medicine, Dima will have to take it till the complete recovery. At present there are three injections per week, each of them costs 1,095 rubles.
In April 2006 it became clear that bone marrow transplantation is the only way to save my son’s life. Unfortunately, none of his relatives matched as a donor. After the typing procedure, international registry showed 15 potential donors.
After I informed my employer that I will need to take a leave for 2 months for my son’s operation I was fired. All our income consists now of Dima’s disability pension (3,500 rubles per month) and alimony (4,000 rubles). Meanwhile, we pay 1,500 rubles per month for utilities and try to buy proper nutrition my son needs. We are also trying to save money for transplantation (15,000 euro is needed for the donor search, additional 2,500 euro for delivery of material to Russia, and we also need money for rehabilitation period). This is a huge amount for me and I will not be able to raise it without your help. Dima is now in a good condition for transplantation, which gives him a very good chance for life.
Please help me save my son!

Update as of May 6, 2008. Thanks to support of RAYAR company, we were able to pay for the donor search for Dima in full!

Update as of March 20, 2009. On March 23, Dima will be hospitalized for therapy of his spleen. He will probably need surgery and/or chemotherapy. Dima feels well, but started to have problems with tolerating Roferon. When the dosage was reduced, his spleen began to grow.
In two-three months Dima is planned to undergo bone marrow transplantation.

Update as of May 12, 2009. Dima underwent splenectomy (surgery to remove his spleen) and he lost a lot of blood.
For now, he is in intensive care under the doctors' watch. Dima is in a stable condition.

Update as of May 29, 2009. The transplantation was scheduled for June 29th. We need to raise 2,500 Euros for the delivery of transplant.

Update as of July 5, 2009. Dima is in 5th post-transplantation day. For now, the leukocyte count has not dropped that much and Dima feels well. He is still active and moves around a lot.

Update as of July 13, 2009. Dima's leukocyte count fell to 0.5. His temperature periodically rises to 39.6C and his blood pressure is unstable. Dima is receiving antibiotics.

Update as of July 14, 2009. We are enormously grateful to Recreation Center Okhta for creating color flyers with Dima's photo. We are very thankful to Elena for her active help with fundraising and participation in our difficult situation.

Update as of August 23, 2009. Dima is monitored as an outpatient, and he feels well. He is now undergoing scheduled hematological testing.

Update as of September 1, 2009. Dima feels well and the doctors allowed him to start going to school. Dima started 4th grade. Our congratulations!

Update as of October 2, 2009. Unfortunately, Dima's transplant was rejected. His own bone marrow is now functioning. Dima feels well, but the test results show liver enlargement. The next week he will undergo control tests.

Update as of January 15, 2010. Dima feels well and attends school. The control tests' results showed that his liver function improved and it is gradually recovering.

Update as of June 4, 2010. Dima is doing well. He finished the 4th grade, and now he and his mom are planning to go to dacha for summer. His liver counts are normal.
After the transplantation, Dima had many dental issues and he constantly has to have treatment. Other than that he is well.
