Danya died on November 6, 2010

Our family came to St. Petersburg from the Tomsk region. Some 6 months ago, in March 2009 trouble came: our son Danya got sick. He had a fever, we went to different doctors but they could not arrive at a diagnoses and were treating him for a cold. Every three days his temperature would rise and then go down again, the boy became moody, nervous and fidgety. Then we were admitted to hospital where the boy was administered a course of antibiotics treatment. 1.5 weeks later we were discharged but had to come to hospital again only after 2 days since the temperature went up to 40°C. The boy's condition was not improving. When we had another blood test in April our doctor was shocked at how bad the result was. Only after that blood test were we sent to Tomsk by air ambulance.
We found ourselves at the children's regional hospital where my son was diagnosed with acute leukemia and thrombocytopenia. On April 13 he was transferred to the children's hematology unit of the regional clinical hospital where the diagnosis was specified as acute monoblastic leukemia. It's a terrible and very rare disease, yet it is not incurable. A bone marrow transplantation can save our boy. It can be performed at the Raisa Gorbacheva Institute of Children's Hematology and Transplantology. We have already had 2 chemotherapy courses in Tomsk and have not finished the 3rd one because the boy's condition became very bad. A month after chemotherapy had been finished Danya finally recovered and came to St. Petersburg where we had to face the housing problem right away. We're an ordinary family and have no money to rent an apartment here.
Please help us rent a place to stay and acquire expensive drugs and food.

Medical conclusion

Update as of September 22, 2009. Danechka is now receiving pre-transplantation chemotherapy. The transplantation itself was scheduled for September 24th. The boy is feeling well. He plays with toys.

Update as of November 3, 2009. Danya fully recovered after transplantation. He is in complete remission, with 100% of donor's bone marrow. Danya was discharged for outpatient monitoring.

Update as of January 19, 2010. Doctors managed to help Danya achieve remission. He now receives immunotherapy with lymphocytes, interferon, and GM-CSF (colony-stimulating factor).

Update as of February 20, 2010. Danya is still getting Roferon and Neostim within the framework of a 3-months' immunotherapy course. Please help us buy Neostim. Danya needs 3 vials per week, each one costs 3,500 roubles.

Update as of March 3, 2010. Danya is in remission. The course of treatment with Roferon and Neostim will last two more months.

Update as of April 30, 2010. Danya had extramedullary relapse. He was prescribed anti-relapse chemotherapy under FLAG protocol. He still needs Vfend.

Update as of May 25, 2010. Danya completed a course of anti-relapse chemotherapy. Visually, the tumor seems to be gone. Danya is now recovering, but very slowly. He is still in cytopenia. A few days ago, he had donor's lymphocyte infusion. After the examination, Vfend was canceled and Danya was prescribed an antifungal drug Ampholip. Once Danya eats better, he will be switched on Noxafil.

Update as of July 14, 2010. Danechka is monitored as an outpatient. This week he will have a puncture and MRI scan. He feels rather well.

Update as of July 20, 2010. Danya's platelet counts plummeted and the neoplasm had enlarged again. Danya was hospitalized for a cycle of chemotherapy.

Update as of August 11, 2010. Danya responded well to a chemotherapy cycle, and the neoplasm disappeared per visual observation. However, since this is not Danya's first relapse, it was decided to refer him for second bone marrow transplantation, this time from his mother. It means that Danya's parents need to pay close to 500,000 rubles for the special equipment to process donor's stem cells. The invoice will be issued in a few days.

Update as of October 6, 2010. Unfortunately Danya was diagnosed with a fourth relapse. He underwent an anti-relapse chemotherapy course, now the boy is recovering from the treatment. Blood counts are still low, but he feels well, happy and active. Due to the relapse, the decision on transplantation had to be postponed until the blood counts' recovery.

Update as of October 18, 2010. During chemotherapy, Danya developed cardiogenic shock and a severe cardiomyopathy. He is now in intensive care unit in a grave condition. Danya receives therapy with neoton.
