Hello!
My name is David Arshakyan.
I was born on September 14, 1987 in Yerevan. I graduated from high school
and then a Police Academy, and worked as a crime investigator.
Last year in July I got a pneumonia, when I had a blood test it turned out
that I have an acute myeloblastic leukemia. This disease is not treated in
Armenia, and this is why I came to St. Petersburg. Since September 2011
I have had four chemotherapy cycles at R.Gorbacheva Institute of Hematology
and Transplantology. I still have to have four more cycles. But for complete
recovery, I need bone marrow transplantation. I have no related donors and
the only chance for me is to search for the donor at the International Donor
Registry. To search for a donor in the registry costs 15000 euros, and the
delivery of the transplant to St. Petersburg costs 2500 euros.
While I was ill my savings were exhausted, and I have no means to continue my
medical treatment. I am not covered by federal insurance in Russia as I am a
citizen of Armenia. Even more so it is not possible for me to find money for
transplantation.
I believe that there are people who will be touched by my story and who will
help me survive.
Update as of January 26, 2012.
David is completing the 6th cycle of chemotherapy under HyperCVAd regimen.
He is in remission. However, only a partially matching donor has been
found so far. After a discussion, it was decided to continue search.
David really needs help with paying for the treatment.
Update as of February 13, 2012.
Today David completed the 7th cycle of chemotherapy. A donor was found
(David's parents raised and transferred the first installment of 5000 euros
to the registry). Transplantation is being planned once the 8th cycle is completed.
Since David is paying full cost of therapy, he needs help with paying off his debt
for the donor search (10,000 euros) and paying for delivery of transplant (2500 euros),
as well as covering the bills for treatment.
Update as of March 11, 2012.
Transplantation was scheduled for April 12th.
