Hello!
Our son's name is Arsen. He was born on April 23, 2000. In February 2004 he was diagnosed with acute
lymphoblastic leukemia, high risk, first active phase.
The treatment began. It consisted of six chemotherapy courses and lasted almost a year. Arsen endured it
and entered remission. It seemed all was going well. He started taking music and painting classes and
was getting ready for school at the same time. He also really wanted to have a brother. In July 2007 our
second son Daniel was born. Arsen started school where he was a good student and made friends with his
classmates. Unfortunately, his disease returned soon after.
Since December 2007, my husband and son are staying at the leukemia chemotherapy unit of Children's
hospital No.1, while I take care of our baby at home. We have no opportunity to work. Arsen has very
long treatment ahead of him: ten anti-relapse chemotherapy blocks. All our savings have already been
used up by his treatment. We really need help now.
Update as of March 13, 2008.
We completed four blocks. Arsen feels well, but he misses his brother a lot.
He has not seen him for three months. On March 11th we started the fifth block
and we will need additional medications.
We would like to thank everyone who is helping us!

Update as of April 18, 2008.
Unfortunately, Arsen's brother did not match as a bone marrow donor. Arsen
is now undergoing the sixth chemotherapy block. He is much weakened.

Update as of May 9, 2008.
The bone marrow donor for Arsen was not found. We will try to find a matching
donor in Armenia. He now completed six chemotherapy blocks. We were allowed to go
home for a few days. After the holidays we will return to the hospital. Arsen feels well.
We would like to thank the AdVita fund supporters!

Update as of July 7, 2008.
Arsen started the tenth chemotherapy block with delay due to stomatitis. He now
feels well. The bone marrow donor has not yet been found for Arsen, so the
transplantation is not in the plans for now.
Update as of July 30, 2008.
After the tenth chemotherapy course our son felt very unwell. He had high
temperature and stomatitis. For three weeks, Arsen could not leave the room.
He had no appetite and lost a lot of weight. He now needs some dental work.
Afterwards, the protocol calls for radiation therapy, for which we will be
hospitalized at City hospital No.31. Then we will return to Children's hospital
No.1 to continue therapy. Thank you very much!

Update as of October 15, 2008.
Arsen is now on treatment at Children's hospital No.1 where he is treated for
complications that arose after radiation therapy. He is fatigued, lost a lot
of weight and has high temperature. However, there is some positive dynamic
in his condition. Arsen is receiving supporting chemotherapy.

Update as of June 3, 2009.
Arsen completed the main course of treatment.
He is in remission regarding the main illness. We are now on supporting
therapy. Unfortunately, Arsen now has viral infection. We treat him at home
with Aqua Maris, Polydexa, antibiotics and Tantum Verde. Next week we plan
to go to Children's hospital No.1 for the checkup. We hope that by that
time Arsen will be well.
We are enormously grateful to all the donors,
supporters and volunteers for their help and support, financial and
emotional. This really helps the children and us, their parents.

Update as of October 20, 2009.
Arsen is studying at home under 3rd grade program. He is a little behind
in English, but doing well with other subjects. Arsen is a little sick now.
He has a cold, with high temperature and runny nose, so he stays at home.
Once every 2 weeks Arsen goes for tests at Children's hospital No.1,
but due to a cold, he has not gone for three weeks now. Arsen
takes supporting chemotherapy in pills.
Update as of February 15, 2010.
Unfortunately, Arsen is now sick. He has a cold with runny
nose and fever.
Arsen will continue maintenance therapy in pills until September.
We now need to come for tests once a month.

Update as of September 20, 2011.
Planned tests revealed relapse. As soon as typing results are
ready, bone marrow transplantation will be discussed.
Arsen was hospitalized at Children's Hospital No.1
for anti-relapse chemotherapy.
Update as of November 29, 2011.
Arsen is continuing chemotherapy cycle at Children's hospital No.1.
Based on results of a consultation, it was decided to start the donor
search at the international registry. A bill was requested.
Update as of February 26, 2012.
Arsen achieved remission after the first cycle of chemotherapy.
For the New Year holidays he was allowed to go home for three days.
Then he had the 5th chemotherapy cycle, which he tolerated rather well,
but the 6th cycle was very difficult: Arsen had sepsis and was in a
serious condition. Fortunately, it was taken under control and Arsen is now
better. He started getting up, but gets tired from any activity. The doctors
do not think he will be able to tolerate four more cycles of high-dose chemotherapy.
On Monday further maintenance chemotherapy will be discussed, as a donor was not yet
found. Arsen takes Vfend. His mom asked to thank all donors whose help allows
Arsen to access this drug.
Update as of March 15, 2012.
On March 6th doctors' council took place at R. Gorbacheva Institute.
Since all the potential donors for Arsen were typed and none of them matched,
it was decided to perform haploidentical bone marrow transplantation from
one of his parents (the results of their typing are not yet ready).
Arsen is now at Children's hospital No.1 where he is receiving maintenance
chemotherapy (methotrexate and Purinethol). Transplantation was preliminarily
scheduled for April.
