Hello!
I am the mother of Arseny Provorov who is only going to be 7 in the fall.
We came from Vologda.
Our son was a child we really wanted to be born. My husband and I were dreaming
of a child and we did not care if it was going to be a girl or a boy, just
wanted it to be healthy. But doctors were speaking of infertility. I had to
get treatment for a long time, and then a miracle happened and I got pregnant.
I gave birth to a healthy baby who weighed over 4 kg. We named him Arseny.
The father was happy his heir was born and even wrote a song on that occasion.
Everything was going exceptionally well. Arseny was a healthy, active and
very affectionate child. This year he was to start school, but trouble came.
For half a year he had an awful cough that we were trying to get rid of.
I spent lots of time on sick leaves and could not even suppose that it was
one of the "masks" of leukemia.
91% of blasts found in bone marrow. T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia,
50% survival rate...
We spent three months at the Vologda Children's Regional Hospital
were Arseny was administered a polychemotherapy course, but in spite of a
bone marrow remission there was no remission in lymph nodes. That's how we
found ourselves at the Raisa Gorbacheva Institute of Children's Hematology
and Transplantology.
At present Arseny is being administered a high dose polychemotherapy course,
which will have to be followed by a bone marrow transplantation. We need
17,500 euros to pay for the donor search in the international registry
and its delivery. Our family's income is 15,000 roubles per month.
We cannot raise such a sum on our own.
Please help us save our son's life!
Respectfully,
Elena Lvovna Provorova

Update as of August 25, 2010.
Arseny developed a critical complication after chemotherapy, bacterial sepsis.
He is receiving colistin and is now in a stable condition.
Update as of September 6, 2010.
Arseny's condition is still very serious, but finally the cell growth has begun.
Platelet count is close to 40 already. Arseny is receiving wide-spectrum
antibiotics, Vfend and Pentaglobin. He still has neurologic complications,
but based on CT of his brain, he does not have stroke.
Update as of September 11, 2010.
According to Arseny's parents, Vologda's Health Administration decided
to issue aid for the donor search for the boy. In the next few days,
the necessary amount will be transferred to Germany.
Update as of October 6, 2010.
Arseny is still trying to overcome Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection,
the situation in general is slowly improving, but still unstable. Unfortunately,
in Russia he cannot get Kolistine, the only medication that works on the
strain he is infected with.
Update as of November 23, 2010.
Arseny was able to overcome a Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, in part
due to Kolistine brought from Germany. Arseny feels better.
The further treatment is going to be discussed based on the results of
the planned PET scan. Volgograd department of Health transferred money
for donor search to Morsch fund, and the search has already started.
Update as of December 14, 2010.
Arseny feels pretty good. Since Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection damaged
his skin in groin area, he will need several plastic surgeries. Currently
chemotherapy is on hold. Due to infectious complications, Arseny has not
had it for four months. In January, Arseny will have the first plastic
surgery and CT scan.
If CT scan does not show progression, then transplantation may be avoided.
And for now, we are going home.

Update as of March 22, 2011.
Arseny is on treatment at a local hospital. He is undergoing consolidation
therapy that will last 6 weeks and then he will be on maintenance
therapy for 2 years.
During maintenance therapy, in-between injections of medications,
Arseny is planned to undergo four surgeries on his skin areas that
were damaged by pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.
Arseny is in complete remission. He tolerates chemotherapy relatively
well, except for weight loss and stomatitis. He is in a good mood - jumps,
runs around and plays a lot.
