Hello,
We are asking for help at this difficult time. In May 2008 my daughter Alena
(she is 15) got sick with myeloblastic leukemia. For almost two years she was
treated at our Regional Clinical Hospital in Ulyanovsk. She went through everything:
chemotherapy, radiation, and maintenance therapy. It seemed things were going
well, but in January 2010 Alena had a relapse. After two intensive chemotherapy
cycles, our treating doctor said there is nothing else she can do and referred
us to St. Petersburg.
In April 2010 my husband and I brought our daughter's and son's blood samples
for typing at R. Gorbacheva Pediatric Hematology and Transplantology Institute.
Our son's blood matched 50% and he will be a donor for his sister, as no 100%
matching donor was found at either our family or the international registry.
Alena's disease is progressing, and the blasts are growing. After many tests,
transplantation was finally scheduled for July 29, 2010.
My daughter is now on pre-transplantation chemotherapy. We need Neupogen medication,
as first my son's stem cells will be stimulated, and then we will need medications
for my daughter. In two years of Alena's treatment, our family resources got
exhausted. We have three children: Alena is oldest, and she is 15, while our
son is 11, and our youngest daughter is only 1.
My husband does not work – he stays with our youngest daughter at home. I am
with Alena at the hospital around the clock. But even when my husband returns to
work, he will not be able to support us all: his family is only 4,500 rubles.
Our relatives already have helped us with everything they could, so at this
time we don't know whom else to ask. Alena still has a long and difficult
toad to recovery and we really need your help. We will be very grateful to
every donated ruble.
Update as of July 27, 2010.
Alena is finishing pre-transplantation chemotherapy.
She will undergo haploidentical transplantation from her brother in
the next few days. Alena has cytopenia, but other than that she does
not have complications. Alena needs Neupogen (10 ampoules at 48M),
which the clinic does not currently have.
