My name is Alexei Konovalov. I live in Apatity. I never thought I
would write a letter like this, but I happened to get leukemia. I was 30
when I was diagnosed with chronic myeloblastic leukemia.
In 2007 when after a cycle of chemotherapy I started taking Gleevec,
I started feeling much better and remission lasted a whole year.
In 2008 first blasts appeared in my blood tests. I then had two more
very harsh cycles of chemotherapy and started taking Tasigna which gave
me two more years of life. In December 2010 I even lost my disability status.
Unfortunately, in January 2011 a real nightmare began: I had intolerable
headaches, fatigue and felt so unwell that I could not walk. My doctors
recommended bone marrow transplantation. My friends and relatives
helped me raise 5,000 euros for the first installment to the registry,
and a donor search was started. But this is only a beginning.
I need additional 10,000 euros to activate the donor and 2,500 euros
to deliver the transplant. For now I was unable to raise so much money.
I worked as a choreographer at Arts Center for 14 years.
I focus on children: for three years I worked with preschoolers, and
now I have a group of adolescents. We travel around our region a lot
with concerts and performances. This is my world, my life.
I want to continue living. I really need your help now. I will not
be able to cope without it.

Update as of November 8, 2011.
Alexei is undergoing scheduled chemotherapy cycles and feeling rather well.
A donor was not found yet, but the search is in the final stages.
The rest of the money was raised thanks to help from Apatit corporation
and local branch of United Russia party, so we have raised the full
amount needed for the donor search and delivery of transplant.
Alexei is asking for help with finding rental apartment and paying
rent for him and his mom once he arrives for transplantation.
Update as of November 12, 2011.
Alexei's transplantation is scheduled for December 15th.
Update as of January 29, 2012.
Transplantation was moved to mid-January for reasons unrelated to the clinic.
During evaluation prior to transplantation, Aleksey was diagnosed with blast
crisis. He is now undergoing chemotherapy under FLAG protocol at
Gorbacheva Institute.
Update as of April 20, 2012.
On February 27 Alexei underwent bone marrow transplantation. Unfortunately,
the transplant failed to engraft. Alexei is currently in cytopenia. He developed
infectious complications and receives therapy with antibiotics. The doctors are
planning to conduct haploidentical transplantation from his mom.
