My son Artem was born on December 14, 1996.
On January 25, 2010 he was urgently hospitalized at
Regional Children's Clinical Hospital in Krasnodar.
The diagnosis he received was shocking: acute myeloblastic leukemia.
Artem was in a critical condition. After numerous punctures he could
not get off the bed – he suffered from headaches and terrible pains in
his back. It was unbearable to watch him suffer. Thankfully, the doctors
helped him timely. My husband was very distressed because he could not
see his son. Artem's sister Valeria was missing him a lot.
Artem used to love soccer and he often helped his sister with her homework.
His illness robbed him of that. The treatment was very difficult: due to constant
nausea and vomiting, my son could not eat, could not sleep because of terrible
pains and lost 7 kg. Seven months later, he started maintenance therapy and we
thought the worst was behind us, but unfortunately the tests showed relapse on
February 8, 2011. Now Artem can only be saved by bone marrow transplantation.
My daughter did not match as a donor, so a search in the international registry will be
undertaken. The search for the donor and delivery of transplant will cost 17,500 euros.
We do not have this much money. My husband and I are seasonal workers and our average
monthly earnings are 15,000 rubles. Artem's disability pension is 7,800 rubles.
Please help us with paying for donor search for our son! We will be also very grateful for
helping with renting a place to live in St. Petersburg during the treatment.

Update as of May 29, 2011.
The doctors managed to achieve partial remission, at present
there are no blasts in the periphery and 5.8% in the bone marrow.
It was decided to initiate the donor search. The medical summary
has been sent to the registry, so we're now waiting for their
invoice. Artem left for Krasnodar to continue the treatment.
Update as of August 2, 2011.
The invoice for the donor search has been paid by Artem's parents.
The search has been initiated.
Update as of January 12, 2012.
A donor for Artem was found and transplantation scheduled for January 20th.
The money for delivery of transplant was also raised.
Update as of February 23, 2012.
Artem is now at the Raisa Gorbacheva Institute of Children’s Hematology and
Transplantology recovering after the transplantation. There are minor signs
of a skin GVH reaction. Since the boy was diagnosed with aspergillosis he
was prescribed Vfend.
Update as of February 29, 2012.
Artem is still in hospital. Blood counts are normal, the transplant is
functioning well, but lowered hormones doses caused a stronger GVH reaction,
so Artem was prescribed photopheresis. The boy has a low-grade
fever all the time.
Update as of April 8, 2012.
Artem is receiving therapy with photopheresis due to skin GVHD. He is in
remission based on control puncture, but donor's percentage in bone marrow
has gone down. Artem was taken off immunosuppressive therapy and he will be
followed for some time.
