Hello!
My son Artemy Bychin was born on August 20, 2007. Now he is a bit over a
year old, but he is already ill with a rare blood disease, Langerhans cell
histiocytosis with metastases in his skin, bones and lymph nodes. My baby was
born healthy. The disease became apparent after a course of vaccinations when
he was 6.5 months old (hepatitis and diphtheria + tetanus). Artem's right
leg started aching, his right buttock became swollen and he turned anemic.
After the neurological treatment in our town (Pikalevo) and taking iron
supplements, Artemy didn't get better. I asked the doctor to refer him
to a hospital in St. Petersburg, and on April 8, 2008 we were admitted
to the Pediatric Surgery unit of the Municipal hospital. The tentative
diagnosis was histiocytosis.
On April 22 we were transferred to Children's Municipal hospital #1. After
examination, the diagnosis was confirmed. A fracture with displacement and
bone tissue defect was discovered on the border of the wing and the body of
the right ilium. From May 2, 2008 till June 11, 2008 Artemy was administered
the first chemotherapy block. Signs of the metastases remaining, it was decided
to administer Artemy a second block, which took place from June 15 till August 2.
Due to the type of his disease, my son was registered as disabled. Until August
2009 he will undergo supporting chemotherapy. Every two weeks we have to come
and stay in the hospital for a week.
We have to take taxi to the hospital, as Pikalevo is far from St. Petersburg,
and my son is too young to walk on his own. We need 7,000 rubles per month for
transportation. I live with my son and my older daughter Alina who is 17 years
old. I am divorced and my ex-husband doesn’t help us financially. Please help us
with paying for taxis and, if possible, with diapers (Pampers, size 4).
Update as of December 8, 2008.
Since August Artemy and I have been coming to hospital every two weeks
for maintenance chemotherapy. He is taking prednisolone, biseptol,
6-MP, and also getting IV drips with vinblastine. The osseous system
has started to recuperate but the process is very slow. He is already
trying to walk with me holding his hand. So far he is not doing it
very well, but Artemy is trying his best. Artemy has become stronger
and more active. He is showing more curiosity and interest towards
everything new.
